On Memorial day, we dined out at the Squealing Pig West Roxbury (not on the OpenTable network, and, I am glad for that) and experienced really poor service.
I’ve waited tables at restaurants. Because of that, I am always apt to cut servers a lot of slack. It is a difficult job and, as a waiter/waitress, you cannot control every element of the dining experience, even though you are the face of the dining experience. That said, I usually don’t complain about service unless it is abominable. And this was.
This review could have been 5 stars if the issue of the service experience was in a positive way.The food was great, delicious but the service was atrocious, the waitress was a disgrace to the craft..She was just plain rude and we felt unimportant unrespected through out the meal. Looking back, I think I should have asked the manager for a different server as soon as things got off course. Other servers brought out our food were very friendly.
Diners can behave badly, too, and negatively impact their own dining experience. However, great service has the transformative power of making a mediocre meal fantastic. Terrible service can overpower any food, no matter how carefully prepared and...
Read moreIf you need a release, come to The Pig on a Thursday night. Grab a big wooden table with your buds. Order a drink. And once the musician starts playing, bang on the tables with all your might to accompany his guitar playing and folky singing.
The atmosphere is great. Comfy bar stools, dim lighting, and a long bar. They have a great selection on draft and in bottles. Ask for a menu and scope out your options. I ordered a Crabbie's Alcoholic Ginger Beer which I'd never tried before and now wish more bars would offer. It's delish. Why is this not a thing, people?
Disclaimer: Thursdays at The Pig are not for the faint of heart. The guys sings both covers and weird, comical originals. Some of the songs (especially during the first set) can get pretty raunchy. So be prepared and choose your drinking partners wisely. There's an awesome community feel since many patrons know the lyrics so can sing (and table bang) along.
Meet the musician before and you might even get a shout-out during his performance like I did. It's probably a good thing this bar isn't close to my house because I'd surely be a Thursday night,...
Read moreUmm 3 because we didn't eat and it looks so cool and everyone else seems to love it. Got here Friday night at 8 PM. Website said they're open until 11. The place was 100% empty and looked closed from the outside. Check Google again. Nope definitely open. We enter. Bar looks cool. Dining room to the right through double doors looks awesome (empty) too. Bartender looks annoyed at our arrival. We get menus. Order 2 beers (their selection is nice for sure). Get asked at 8.20 if we want food since the kitchen is closing in 10 minutes. We decline ( menu does look scrumptious btw). All good and nothing terrible - just taken aback at feeling like a nuisance I guess. Would maybe try again and am sure it's awesome, but typing this now and leaving relieved that I am no longer in someone's way....
