Unfortunately, these were the worst Haitian beef patties that I have ever had. The dough was so thick (like empanadas) and there was also a strange after taste that I could not stomach; I could not even finish eating it. On top of that I ordered 6 patties in total, 5 beef and 1 chicken (1 beef and 1 chicken were for someone else), I received 4 chicken patties and 2 beef patties which was very upsetting because I am not a fan of chicken at all.
This left me with just 1 beef patty and I had to throw away the other 3 chicken ones (my portion of the order) because the person I ordered for did not like the patties either and did not want to eat them. In addition, for whatever reason the smell was also unsavory. I cannot explain the distinct smell but it was not pleasant. Perhaps, we got a bad batch because I could not believe how bad these tasted and smelled.
On the plus side, the customer service was great! The woman at the front who prepared my order was very kind. I would give 5 stars for the customer service I had but definitely 1 star for the patties. Maybe next time I will try one of their other dishes and have better luck because according to the majority of other reviews, they have good food.
Side note (attached picture): I did not receive the patty that way, I opened it up to make it easier to eat because the dough was that thick. What is shown in the picture is what I threw away in addition to what I said in my...
Read moreAfter traveling from New York City, I searched for an authentic Haitian restaurant to have breakfast with my family, similar to what we experienced in NY (Haitian patties, soup, etc.) We looked up this place, and the rating of 4.3 stars was undeserved. The setting was horrible and the food was not great. The patty was made out of bread instead of pastry and was not flaky and fluffy. It looked like a samosa and the filling was unrecognizable. We also ordered the liver. Upon opening it, it didn't look or smell good (like it wasn't clean, a fleshy smell) but because I am Haitian, I gave it the benefit of the doubt. That was a wrong descision and I had to throw the rest away. When I complained, the lady gave me fish instead, but the sauce was too thick to be enjoyable.
The server (a tall black man at the counter) was an amazing host, with a nice smile, but everything else was junk.
In the end, they tried to force me to leave with a paper bag for my soup (which is a liquid), and when I complained, they complained back to me. What type of restaurant doesn't give plastic bags for soup, and a to-go bag?
Horrible experience and I would hate for someone else to experience it. If it's this bad for a Hatian, imagine an American...
Read moreI am Haitian American and I called this restaurant on the phone to make a mobile order for pick up. When I arrive to pick up my food, they tried to charge me twice the amount that was quoted to me on the phone. There were three people behind the register, and all three of them could barely speak English. They could not properly operate the register to give me the correct price for my order. As a Haitian woman, I experience this a lot when I walk into businesses of my own people, unfortunately. Even though I did my best to communicating creole, the staff became frustrated and refused to serve me. I’ve never experienced this in other Caribbean restaurants only with my own people which makes it so sad. I’ve also reported this to the Better Business Bureau because why are you hiring people who are undocumented and can’t speak English to operate your register. How am I supposed to know what I’m paying for is correct? How can you charge me for a side order of chicken for $33? Do better I won’t be giving this location my...
