I have been coming to pen thai with family since 2006 and was a customer of chantanee atleast since 2011/12. My friends and I we were bummed out that chantanee was closing in Bellevue because it was like a family and I used to visit once or twice every week.
Recently, my team was planning for a Thai lunch and I was looking for some options. I was so ecstatic to see that chantanee is open in Bothell!
I drove my team from Queen Anne to Bothell and we absolutely enjoyed every item we ordered. My team thanked me for a great suggestion. On our way back, folks in my car casually mentioned about something was weird about the service and I agreed. This lady was always in a hurry (just for our table) and never came back to ask if everything was ok, we need a box etc., There were just three other tables and things weren’t crazy and it felt like we were not treated well.
Last Saturday, I come back to another waitress and she was amazing and the food was amazing.
I came back this Saturday (1/20), I met with the waitress with an attitude. At the beginning, I didn’t think anything but I know she would always be in a hurry so I ordered everything at first. After I am done with the lunch, 5 minutes go by, 10 minutes go by she never came back to my table. When she came to nearby tables couple of times, she acted like she didn’t hear me and walked away. Finally, I walked to the front and paid my bill and left a 15%tip even though I was upset. She has the audacity to ask if something was wrong with the service. I would have given her a lesson that she should’ve thought about it when walking away from nearby tables as though you didn’t hear me and never came back to ask if I want a box or order any dessert or anything.
I really wish Chantanee Thai the best but this kind of service whether it is profiling or what is unacceptable. I would have never expected this...
Read moreI met friends here and was a little late. When I walked in and was directed to the table I had to wait 20 mins before I could order a drink... in fact I went back to the kitchen to get the server's attention. Then I chose the Seafood Soup, not noticing that it actually includes ground chicken (the last item in a long list of seafood and veges) The soup took quite a long time but that was OK, chatting with friends. The broth was bland and there were 2 shrimp and 2 small pieces of calamari. A few slivers of overcooked carrot and celery and a little cubed tofu rounded out the unattractive bowl. There was no other seafood and there were little pieces of cardboard-like substances on the bottom. The waitress came back eventually and I mentioned that the soup was not what I had expected. Not much seafood. I had not discovered the cardboard yet. She said "oh well you'll know not to order it next time" NO apologies or offer to get something else. A sulky demeanor. A few minutes later as I picked at my unpalatable soup I found the cardboard and asked my companions to try to identify it. They agreed it was chicken. As I don't eat meat I went again to the kitchen to get my server. She pointed out to me that there was a mention of chicken on the menu. I asked to order something else and that I would pay for the extra meal. We waited for 30 mins and she came to box up my friends' left overs. I asked where my meal was and she denied that I had ordered it. My companions witnessed my order so there was no excuse for this abysmal and sulky service. I will not be going back. Nothing was comped and this waitress got no tip. However the mango mojito was delicious...

We stepped into Chantanee Thai looking for a warm, comforting meal and left with new favorites and full hearts. If you’re someone who loves bold, authentic Thai flavors, this is your next must-visit.
Pad Thai with deep-fried tofu was a revelation. Sweet, tangy, savory in every bite unfolds a little more flavor. The tofu adds that perfect crunch, lifting the dish to something memorable and crave-worthy.
Pineapple fried rice quickly stole the spotlight. The spices, imported directly from Thailand, brought deep, earthy richness that danced beautifully with the juicy, vibrant pineapple chunks. This dish doesn’t just taste good—it tastes like a celebration.
Cashew chicken came generously loaded with crunchy cashews and well-balanced flavors that felt intentional in every bite. It’s hearty, satisfying, and exactly what a comfort dish should be.
Fresh rolls lived up to their name and were bright, crisp, and impossibly fresh. And then there was the hero of the night…
The peanut sauce. Thick, nutty, and packed with unforgettable flavor. In my humble opinion? It’s absolutely outstanding. I’d come back just to experience that sauce again, it’s that good.
