I’ll start by telling you a story. During Steve job’s college days, he was the typical broke college student. One day he was so hungry he decided to go to his usually diner. The owner of the diner, knowing Steve’s situation and how he couldn’t pay so they dropped dollar bill and said, “hey isn’t this yours?”. Later in life, after Steve Jobs became the ceo of apple, he returned to that diner and paid that owner 100-fold for preserving his dignity. The moral of the story was the store owner treated everyone regardless of who they were with dignity. I love the chefs at sushizone. Their Mushashi bowl is fairly priced and the pieces of sushi are ginormous. It’s my local sushi spot that I’ve come to enjoy and frequent quite often. I always order one mushashi bowl and one cup of water. I know I can’t give a big tip so every time I dine there I make sure to clean up after myself even going as far as bringing my one bowl and one cup near the kitchen. Today as I went to pay, the tension from the servers who passive aggressively pointed at the receipt and told me how much tip I should leave left me feeling so degraded, and so belittled. I replied so how was your service today? Was bringing me one bowl and one cup of water so much work you feel the sense of entitlement that you have to make me feel unwelcomed? I mean.. it’s Sushi that comes on a conveyor belt.. I mean I would understand if I ordered massive amounts of drinks and food and made these servers walk back and forth and then I left no tip. Unfortunately, to the owner they have lost my business and for me, I have lost a local sushi place I’ve come to really enjoy. After a whole day of studying I’m left hungry and I’ve come to rely on their mushashi bowl to fill my soul. Thank you for your care in creating such an amazing bowl, I hope you can convey that until your servers and that one day when I can afford to tip bigger I look forward to coming back, until then I will feel unwelcomed at...
Read moreWe chose this place because it was the closest to us, and it was open late. I believe 9:30 p.m. when we walked in there was a couple of people picking up orders one family of six eating at a table and a few couples here and there by the belt. I asked for a comfortable private place and the woman seemed irritated. We ordered our veggie stuff because that's what we eat we even ordered a couple of things that didn't sound that great. They ended up being our favorite. The crankier woman had as pick up the old veggie stuff off the belt. Not so fresh! I can't imagine for the people who eat the fish. When I asked for some hot water for my tea bag that could have gone in a pot it was big enough, she poured boiling water on my hand which I swear was in purpose and didn't say she was even sorry. On the other hand The Other Woman was incredibly polite and the more we talk she even got sweeter. The food that was actually made for us was really fresh and really good for the price. We will go back but I'll be aware of the hot water LOL. And do my best to get the sweeter woman to help us. All in all I'd still give it a five out of five for what it is. And I'm glad it's close enough to where we live that it's almost too convenient I should be making it at home. I do have to say that lunchtime I guess is really busy with college kids so I was told by another customer. Other than that I would say...
Read moreThis place scratches the itch for conveyer belt sushi (a.k.a. kaitenzushi) and does it satisfyingly well. There are a decent assortment of sushi options to pick from ranging from standard rolls (e.g. California rolls, etc.) to more unique creations such as the Super Duper roll or Fantasy roll (my current fave).
What makes Sushi Zone more unique than other kaitenzushi places is that it has a double conveyer belt that carts hot items on the bottom. This gives customers quicker and easier access to foods such as teriyaki chicken and yakisoba without having to order from a server.
Service is quick and prompt, with servers regularly checking on you to refill your beverage. Whenever you grab a hot item that generally has sauce on the side (e.g. egg rolls, crab rangoon, tempura, etc.), the servers are quick to notice and will provide you with a little dish of the right sauce.
Overall, I really like Sushi Zone and have taken friends and family there multiple times. The food and service are great and the price is very reasonable. It certainly doesn’t compare to dining at a regular sushi restaurant, but no conveyer belt places do and it would be unfair to hold it to such a standard. The next time you're craving "fast food" sushi, this is the...
