⭐ 5/5 – Boulder’s Best Italian Spot, Perfect for Any Occasion
Carelli’s is hands down one of the best Italian restaurants in Boulder. I’ve been coming here for years, and the consistency in food quality, service, and overall experience is what keeps me coming back. Whether you’re looking for a nice dinner out, a spot to celebrate a special occasion, or just a solid Italian meal, this place delivers on all fronts.
🍝 The Food: 5/5 The menu has something for everyone, from classic pasta dishes to amazing pizzas and fresh seafood options. You can tell they use high-quality ingredients, and everything comes out perfectly cooked.
The pasta dishes are always cooked to perfection, never overdone or undercooked. The sauces are rich and flavorful, whether you’re going for a classic marinara or a creamy Alfredo. The pizza is fantastic, with a perfectly crispy crust and just the right amount of cheese and toppings. It’s easily one of the best in Boulder. Seafood dishes and appetizers are also well-executed, which isn’t always the case at Italian places this far from the coast. Portions are generous but not overwhelming, so you leave satisfied without feeling stuffed. 🏡 The Atmosphere: 5/5 Carelli’s has a warm, inviting vibe that makes it great for any occasion. It’s nice enough for a special celebration but also casual enough for a relaxed dinner. The lighting is dim but cozy, and the décor has an upscale yet comfortable feel. If you’re looking for a place to take visiting parents, a date, or a group of friends, this is a fantastic option.
🛎️ The Service: 5/5 The service is consistently great. The staff is attentive without being overbearing, and they always seem genuinely happy to be there. Food comes out in a reasonable time, even when they’re busy, and the servers are knowledgeable about the menu. If you have dietary restrictions or need recommendations, they’re happy to help.
💰 The Verdict: Boulder’s Best Italian Spot Carelli’s is one of those places that never disappoints. The food is always on point, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the service is top-notch. It’s a perfect mix of upscale and casual, making it ideal for everything from a nice dinner out to a special celebration.

Read moreCarelli's is a go-to for us when we want Italian food that competes with what we can make at home. I'm a former-chef so I tend to have high standards for dishes, plate presentations, and service.
It's reasonably priced for dishes which would typically be quite time consuming and the prices are on-point for the quality.
I requested if it would be possible to substitute the veal in the scallopini for chicken parmesean, although I know from a previous experience the veal is very good.
The chef agreed and it came out even better. They serve dishes to be served hot, very hot and they are very cool, nice people.
Our server was Owen who we learned had only been on the floor 1 night before. He was amazing. Not only did he offer us some very nice dessert options but he went to the effort of brining out a very nice display which was impressive.
We like the family orientated vibe and the way the staff balance speed of service against the need for quality, along with time to relax a little during a good meal.
The wine selection is very good and the recommendations we receive are reasonably priced but high quality and after, we typically stick with them even at home, which says alot about the credibility of their recommendations.
The servings are typically too-much to eat all at once so left-overs are always in the mix, in keeping with the Italian tradition of making sure no one leaves feeling hungry.
The garlic bread is stellar for those guests for whom carbs are being excepted given their exceptional recipes.
You will have a great meal and a great dining experience at Carelli's. If you have room for dessert, they have incredible options even for those like myself who typically skip it.
The appetizers are always worth it.
Highly...
Read moreCarelli's is a must visit in Boulder for a relaxing dinner alone at the bar, a date-night, or dinner with the family and friends. A few minutes away from the hustle and bustle of downtown, you'll have to drive or take public transport. With that said, the restaurant has lots of available parking and plenty of authentic Italian atmosphere that makes up for not being exactly downtown Boulder.
The owner comes from a traditional Italian family so although some of the recipes have been tweaked to suit an American palate, there are plenty of authentic Italian options. I lived and traveled in Europe for several years so coming back to Carellis gives me a little sense of nostalgia for the Italian atmosphere and wonderful food.
The garlic bread is something made for us Americans, it's made-to-order and oooh so fresh and tasty. Say goodbye to the low-salt, plain bread that is ubiquitous to an authentic Italian dinner table in Italy—this is one of the adaptations that Carelli's does absolutely right... What can I say, I love garlic bread.
I've had just about everything on the menu and can say that seeing the owner and head-chief slaving away in the kitchen most nights makes me understand why Carelli's is one of (if not the most) popular restaurants in Boulder.
Pros: Atmosphere lighting Noise level Service (top notch!) Parking Fire tables (inside and out!)
Cons: Not in downtown Boulder so I can't just take a walk on Pearl Street after dinner (not a huge deal I suppose). It can get busy most nights so a reservation is a good idea or 20-30min wait without a reservation works too. No Pico De Pepe on the menu.. come on, Carelli's.. get it together and make my favorite...
