I expected a lot more from this established neighborhood supermarket. I was recommended to order the Italian cold sub. When the sandwich was ready, they handed me a toasted sub. I almost had to argue with them to replace the bread the toasted bread with cold bread.
Sandwich comes with a bag of chips, so I head to the register and checkout. The cashier starts to charge me for the bag of chips, then proceeded to tell me that the chips in the “straw basket” come with the sandwich. He asked me if I wanted my present bag of chips, I said yes, then he proceeded to charge me for the bag. I said, you’re really charging me for this? Then I grabbed the chips and went back to substitute it for the chips in the “straw basket.” I found that my original bag of chips was indeed in the “straw basket”, and brought this to the attention of the cashier. And pretty much blew it off.
As I took a bite into the Italian sub, I noticed that there was only one slice of meat for each of the three meats, plus there was no oil & vinegar or mayonnaise. There were only a co uple strands o
f sliced onion, wrinkly tomatoes, and one withered slice of lettuce.. Pathetic!!
I went back in and spelled it out to the cashier, he was surprised that there was no oil and vinegar or mayonnaise on the sub, and God’s excuse for the lack of meat was that it’s expensive these days.. unacceptable.
Those dudes in the back should be reprimanded for the poor excuse of a sandwich they made, $11.99...
Read moreLolita's offers a very Boulderesque riff on the east coast bodega, with a wide range of quick-serve deli items, and a few small, but well-stocked grocery aisles, packed with natural foods products that are usually found at larger-scale organic grocers. This place stays open late, so if you need a small snack when everything else is closed, this is the spot. Sometimes there are strange, homeless-looking, Pearl St. weirdos that congregate outside, but the store always has a homey, laid-back, comforting vibe, and is a reminder of how Boulder used to be before the gentrification invasion of the mid-2000s. I like being able to stop here and pick up a few grocery items before bed, especially if I forgot to get something from the store earlier in the day. There is a great selection of candy, energy bars, takeaway items, and chilled beverages, beyond what you will find at your typical gas station or convenience store. I'm glad Lolita's has hung in there through such a turbulent market, where there has been so much turnover in Pearl St. storefronts, and when smaller, street-corner food markets around the country have been forced to close. Where else can you get your hemp milk and organic popcorn at 12:30am on a Tuesday evening? Lolita's! Always...
Read moreCame in Sunday morning for a sandwich. I've passed through this market before and it has a comfortable neighborhood feel. Girlfriend wanted to buy us lunch b/c she said the sandwich's here are good. My major mistake...I asked for jalapenos on half my sandwich, and asked for two items to be held-off. The man taking my order displayed his obvious disgust for my customization of the sandwich. I was so put off by the face he made I almost left. Its just a sandwich guys. I didn't ask you to build me a zero-gravity rocket. I'm sorry, but this man (not a part of the sandwich making team) was a major buzz kill on my Sunday morning and actually made me feel bad. Maybe he was tired and grumpy? My sandwich...came with all the items I asked to be held-off, and nothing I had added. I assumed it was personal after watching him give me order to the makers. The sandwich was still good...just not what I ordered at all. :( But, to finish, the women at check-out was friendly and personable!! Fortunately, she was my last impression and set me on the right track again. I'll still come back but wanted to express my let down with the...
