On our spring break ski trip to Boyne Mountain, our favorite spot to eat was easily Forty Acres Tavern. They are located slopeside at the base of the Hemlock lift. They had plenty of tables set up outside and the weather was ideal for this!
Happy hour runs 4-6 everyday but Friday and Saturday, featuring $5 craft beers. I recommend Petoskey Brewing Everett's IPA.
As far as food goes, their fried chicken sandwich was very good. It a large panko fried breast topped with provolone, coleslaw, spicy pickles, and lemon sriracha aioli on a brioche bun ($17). Their onion rings are also very good.
I would also recommend the loaded grilled cheese, which actually has cheese grilled to the outside and inside of the sandwich. It is stuffed with aged cheddar, provolone, feta, applewood smoked bacon, caramelized onion, avocado, and tomato aioli on Texas toast ($16). Their sweet potato fries are also very good and go well with this sandwich.
Our service was great. Prices are high, but as to be expected on the slopes. I would definitely go...
Read moreI ordered and paid for the Melon and Prosciutto salad (all in for $27) from 40 Acres Tavern, directly from the SPA menu provided. The salad had no Prosciutto, melon only. Very expensive "melon only" salad. No interest from the spa resort employee to correct or refund the error when I brought it to her attention. I was in the spa for almost four hours - plenty of time to call and have another salad made or to refund. Unacceptable and poor customer service from the spa desk. I was told I would have to handle it directly with the Tavern afterward even though my experience was through the SPA. God forbid I asked the spa "service desk" person to pick up the phone and run another salad over. She was very short and could not be bothered with providing customer service. It wasn't her problem....

Wife was told the wait for a party of 4 was 15-30 min and if the entire party wasn't there within 8 min we would move down the list (that's a fair policy). In case we were closer to the 15 the rest of us arrived and we all waited outside. After 35 min we checked on our spot and one person could find us but the other person did and made the comment "it's OK, we have two tables open." not sure how long we were shipped but I was surprised that there wasn't an apology.
The chicken strips were thin and not much to eat for the price. For a party of 4 lunch is as $100 (including tip) and the fries cost extra when ordering a hamburger.
Better...
