The positive:
The food was all around fantastic barring the rangoons needing to cook a tiny bit longer.
My wife and I ordered the Rangoons as the app which was good but they were a little too much on the soft side. This may be a personal preference on the hardness of rangoons so take this with a grain of salt. The flavor though was top notch.
The 3 rolls of sushi were also all very good. Presentation was beautiful and the balance of flavors were near perfect. My soy sauce spent the night unused due to how good the sushi was.
And finishing off with the Moshi was a perfect end to the night.
The cons: Beer selection. It was pretty light. The place has a style and vibe it is going for so it's understandable that the beer selection is much smaller than it's impressive sake selection. It's a slight con to me but not one worth really knocking a star for. Especially since I don't know what sake I would like. Though the price of the unknown drinks felt prohibitive.
Seating. This unfortunately isn't something that can be fixed at the establishments current location. Yes they have outdoor seating that feels more private but the indoor is just overall crowded. You will get very friendly with your neighbors in this restaurant.
This crowded seating arrangement also made the restaurant very loud. Unfortunately this is symptom of the restaurant being successful.
My main con is the price. This is also something that simply with being in Bozeman you can't get away from and you come to expect. Compared to other sushi restaurants in the area however, this one is slightly more expensive per roll. We spent just over 100$.
But over all I still rate Hooked 5 stars. Most of the issues, if not all are simply something caused by location or the success of the restaurant. If it was dead and quiet I would have enjoyed my time a lot more. But I'm sure the owner would have it the opposite way.
If you are comfortable being comfortable next to a stranger and love sushi I'd say definitely give this...
Read moreI sadly have to say, this was the worst fine dining I've ever experienced. At first, the waiters were attentive and kind. We ordered the "chef special" which was a six course meal of chefs choice. Thought it would be a great and fun option. After the first three minuscule courses, I started to worry that this was a mistake. We went a long time in between courses and were both hungry from the moment we entered the door until we left. Our waiter didn't ask how our $60 per person experience was or if we enjoyed it even. He handed us a check and said thanks. I feel really upset about this. For $167, I'd at least like a somewhat full stomach but my stomach is in knots right now from hunger and from eating such little acidic plates. To make it even worse, we were sat at the bar and watched the sushi chefs prepare dozens of filling sushi rolls and had to watch them get carried off to other patrons- my mouth was salivating- while we waited 15-25 minutes between meager courses. I get that they are supposed to be small courses; this isn't my first rodeo. However I felt crowded in a small space, forgotten about, and abandoned after our fourth course. Very upsetting experience and I will not be returning and hope I save someone from making the same...
Read moreEDIT - We got a very kind message from one of the owners, Kelsey (hope I spelled that right!) making our experience right. I have to say that's a first for us. My husband and I both managed restaurants in the past so totally understand a bad night! Updated my review.
We will be back, knowing the owners actually care about their guests experience!
We've eaten here once before as dine in, and loved it Sushi is a treat and can be a spendy one.
Tonight my hubby was kind enough to pick up sushi after a very long day for me and I'm hugely disappointed. Our 2 specialty rolls ($18/per) that were normal sized when eating in person, together were the size of one in person. I certainly hope that's not normal.
I'm disappointed in the huge difference between eating in and what we got tonight. The food tastes good but damn that makes a spendy dinner into not worth...
