We had a very disappointing experience at the Ellen today. When my wife purchased tickets for the documentary rewind she noticed on the website that one of her favorite movies from her childhood, Newsies was going to be presented so she placed the date on her her calendar. She also placed the time of the show on the calendar in the kitchen and mentioned it to me multiple times over the next 2 months. She asked me, the week of the show, to not make plans for Saturday at 3pm for this is when the show started. She double checked the time, and sure enough it was 3. We gathered the family up in the car and drove to the theater found parking and entered the theater only to find out that the movie it started at 2 p.m. Oddly enough the owners of the theater were in the lobby assuring everyone that it was the Bozones mistake and not their own and that they had checked their own website and then argued with us about whether or not we double-checked. We decided not to stay. I promptly checked their website to find nothing at all mentioned about the movie or when it started even though they assured us that they had checked their website and it was indeed 2 p.m. I love the Ellen and everything in it stands for but this particular experience really left a sour...
Read moreI find the hidden fees associated with events at the Ellen to be quite distasteful. If you are going to advertise a ticket price just advertise it at what I can expect to pay you at the box office. Don't advertise that the cost is $5 for a student to attend an event like Pecha Kucha and then tell me it's really $8 (ish) with the mandatory fees. Some years ago the box office refused to give me that student deal for Pecha Kucha - they said there was no such thing - even though I had read it in the "Get Out" section of the newspaper. The only way they let me in was making me pay the regular ticket cost - once I got home I found the student price listed in the paper. I think it's great they occasionally play classic movies there but I never go as I know the fee troll is lurking at the box office. Please just be up front about the cost to attend an event. I had emailed my concerns at one point but never got a response. The interior is beautiful (not the lobby though) which is why I came up...
