The Porch Cafe & Catering — Restaurant in Brattleboro

I ordered a ham, bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich. The person taking my order heard the word Ham and just assumed I was ordering the special and didn’t listen to the rest of my order. She put in the special and I received the special which was not anything like a ham, bacon, egg and cheese sandwich at all. I brought it back and asked for what I had ordered. She told me that she heard the word Ham and so she just assumed I wanted the special. I informed her that I did not want the special. I wanted a ham, bacon, egg and cheese sandwich. She told me that they didn’t have Ham unless it was for the special. The cook called across the restaurant and said that he didn’t mind throwing a ham, bacon egg and cheese sandwich on, and that he did it all the time she turned around and gave him a dirty look and told him no the ham is only for the special. He again reiterated that he didn’t mind and would be happy to.She refused to allow him . You would think since she had made a mistake, she would have simply let him make the exception. As I was already gonna have to wait for a sandwich while the rest of my family was eating their food.Instead, I paid for a special and then was only allowed to order a bacon, egg and cheese in replacement . I likely paid more money than I should have For a bacon egg and cheese because she had charged me for whatever the special was and not a bacon, egg and cheese. And had I known that they did not have a ham, bacon, egg, and cheese I would have ordered entirely differently. Instead, I got just a regular bacon egg and cheese, and it wasn’t even made nicely. we spent $40 and I didn’t even get the sandwich that I wanted and it was not put together with care simply because she was upset because she hadn’t listened to my order. Deciding on a caterer was one of the hardest parts of the wedding planning process. There were so many different options at various price points. We ended up going with Porch Too. This was due to many factors. I mean, come on, the food is amazing! Anyone that has eaten at The Porch in Brattleboro knows this! But the most important factor for us was flexibility in creating and accommodating various allergy and dietary needs of our guests. Both my now spouse and I have at different points in time have been guests at events and there is nothing for us to eat besides maybe a salad or a roll depending on dietary restrictions. It was very important to us that all of guests had at least one delicious option (carnivore, vegan, gluten free, corn free, etc). Gretchen was immediately open to creating a menu that did just that. She also did so based on available food at the time of year. We did a tasting with Gretchen early on in the process. She was great to chat with and made us some of the best food that we couldn't wait to share with guests. She was also extremely accommodating and quick to answer our many questions!

Day of, Gretchen showed up with the CUTEST Halloween themed chalkboard signs for the food. It was the best surprise we could've asked for! Each sign listed an available meal and had a Halloween themed cartoon drawn beside it. Gretchen also brought up appetizers to my very hungry wedding party after we had taken photos. It was such a lovely surprise and everyone was so, so grateful! The dinner was amazing and my family enjoyed leftovers for several days afterwards. We cannot thank you Gretchen and her team enough for making an amazing, versatile dinner! Ten stars for this...

Do not hesitate - they are the best!

We recently used The Porch Catering for an all-day conference in Brattleboro, and could not be more pleased with the service and food! Our schedule consisted of a buffet/continental breakfast, buffet lunch, afternoon coffee & snacks, and evening reception appetizers/finger food.

Prior to the event, Gretchen was very communicative and flexible on setting the menu (we had some low-meat, vegan needs to accommodate). Gretchen was able to work with the site/facilities staff directly, which was a huge weight off my event coordination (thanks Gretchen!). Their staff team was prompt at set-up, attentive to replenishing, and unobtrusive during clean-up/breakdown.

AND THE FOOD!! This is probably the best food we have used for a professional event. We especially appreciated that the ingredients were largely plant-based and nutrient-dense. Really helped to fuel our participants for the day! Nearly everyone was commenting on the quality of the food. The standouts were the lunch and evening finger food offerings.

Post event, I was appreciative that Gretchen was flexible in updating our invoice. A week before the event, we had a drop in attendance numbers, and Gretchen was able to reflect this in the final payment. Not all caterers...
