Heathens Bakery: A Gluten-Free Revelation!
My husband completely surprised me today with a chocolate treat from Heathens Bakery, and wow, was it a game-changer! At first, I just took a bite, thinking it was a regular rich chocolate cake or cupcake. It was absolutely delicious, but because I usually have to limit my gluten intake, I handed it back to him.
Then came the amazing news: "It's gluten-free," he said! I couldn't believe it. This wasn't just "good for gluten-free"; this was genuinely, incredibly good, period. The chocolate itself was a dream – super moist and heavy, almost fudge-like in its richness, but in the best possible way. It had this wonderfully robust flavor to it, almost like there was a hint of liquor or something deep and complex, which made each bite even more satisfying.
And the frosting? Oh my goodness. It was creamy, tangy, and had that unmistakable, delicious "cheesy" something that could only be perfect cream cheese frosting. We ended up passing it back and forth, sharing every last bit, and it was plenty for the two of us to thoroughly enjoy.
Whatever that chocolate masterpiece was called – a cupcake, a small cake, who knows – it was absolutely to die for! As someone who often feels limited by gluten-free options, this was a truly delightful surprise. I cannot wait to visit Heathens Bakery in person and explore more of their incredible offerings. If their other treats are even half as good as this, they've just gained a loyal customer!

Read moreWe popped in to grab a sweet treat and coffee, and were surprised to see they have fresh sandwiches and seasonal soups too. We decided to grab lunch along with our baked goodies and coffee. Everything was DELICIOUS! Their sandwiches are on fresh, thick, soft focaccia, toasted to perfection at your request. The ingredients were good quality and the flavor combos are great. The soups are hearty and SO good, served with crusty bread. The variety of baked goods we sampled were moist and perfectly sweet, NOT overly sweet as one oddball review indicated. We tried the pumpkin cinnamon rolls, and instead of them being a soggy, overly sweet mess, they were PERFECT, tall and fluffy with a whipped frosting. We got coffee and chai, both very different from the standard brand and chai mix that every single other coffee place in town uses. The coffee is not Dillanos and the chai is not the standard overly sweet powder. Prices felt really fair, $12 for a sandwich and cup of soup. And then there’s the atmosphere/vibe. I don’t think any place since Hi-Lo has felt so quirky and lovable and homey. All around 5-star experience, I hope they’re open for years to come, and we will certainly be back to...
Read moreHeathens Bakery is a new place in our neighborhood. Today was my first time to visit. It is on Lebo and Clare Ave. You truly can't miss it from the street. It is a corner store with lots of windows and the entrance is on the corner. The colorful curtains make it eye catching and easy to find. Being able to park right in front of the store is a plus, but there is as well lots of parking inside the plaza area. The moment you open the door you get greated by a friendly young man who's name was Logan. Politeness and kindness seems to be in his being. From the back I could hear the excited and happy voice of Jennifer Chamberlin greeting me as well. Not only was everyone full of smiles, the decor placed a smile on my face. I ordered a sandwich, sat down, relaxed and listen to good music. The food was wonderful, the place a joy to be in, and the people were full of love. I know I will be back....
