I am an "returning to college" adult that started college in 1992, went for a year, and then let life get in my way of finishing a degree. My son completed the CIS (Information Technology) AAS-T degree program here a year ago, and when everything came together for me last fall, I jumped at the opportunity to go back to school and finally earn that degree. This is now my third quarter at OC and overall, I like what is going on at this college. Politically, it's a very LIBERAL collage (and for a conservative man, I find I have to bite my tongue in order to survive some of the things I see and hear going on around me).
However, aside from the general political bent of the campus, from an educational experience, I would say their Computer Information Services track is just incredible. They have a number of professors that have incredible amounts of technical knowledge that know their stuff and they love to teach and it shows but the way the students interact with their professors and with each other. You want your A+ certification? There's two classes for that. Looking for your Cisco or Microsoft Certifications? There are several classes for those. Just be prepared to work HARD to get those certs; they don't come easy and there are mountains to climb in order to get ready to take your tests.
Finally -- costs are much more reasonable than going to the UW campuses. You could come here and earn an associates degree and then go on to earn your bachelor's degree at another college, or you could stay here an earn a bachelor's degree in a few different fields.
If you live in the area, you owe it to yourself to check out Olympic College's degree programs. Just make sure you take the bus, because parking...
Read moreUnbelievable! Since April 1st 1, 1998. Proud and dedicated. What a ride. 26years. I always loved my job. Too bad such petty people, instead of appreciating your physically hard work and/or accomplishments will instead, target, bully, sabotage and hate on hard working classified staff that are truly the foundation of the college. Other than that fact, Olympic College is an absolutely amazing college from the gorgeous campus, incredible professors and teaching staff, options for degrees and even a variety of venues for campus and community events. From the moment I first walked on Olympic College campus, I knew I had found my future. I know, in my heart, that I worked very hard on all assignments (and then some) and am, to this day, more than proud of my accomplishments. Being around and interacting with some of the incredible faculty and staff as well as the countless amazing students were the true blessings and memories that I embrace and value and keep in my heart. God helps me to let go of the shameful, undeserving, harmful actions and accusations aimed at me. That ugliness over many years finally chased me away. Nonetheless, OLYMPIC COLLEGE, Bremerton is an excellent choice to continue...
Read moreI recently graduated with an AS transfer degree and these last two years have been absolutely amazing! This school is one of the best I've been to. All the teachers I've had are experienced and very knowledgeable in their respective fields. It's easy to get financial aid or get one of the many scholarships offered by the school. If you join one of the many student government clubs they give you a chunk of change to work on whatever extracurricular projects or go on whatever outings you may fancy. Lastly, they partner with several universities which means I can "transfer" and finish my four year degree right here.
I think if I had to give any constructive criticism it would be to improve the efficiency of the admin offices. It took literally a week to get enrolled and any task requires being passed around between people at least twice. Granted it's gotten better in the time I've been there (getting a parking permit no longer means a hike across campus!), however I recommend consolidating the cashier and admissions front end into one.
All in all, it's been a great two years and I look forward to starting at WSU on your...
