Taqueria Los Cazadores is relatively close to our house, and the food has always been fresh and reasonably decent, but not incredibly impressive to us. We have dined in, where there have been only 1 or 2 other tables with people at them but we have also seen the restaurant over half full. Taqueria Los Cazadores is a stand-alone restaurant, and the decor is a little dark and somewhat dated. I have seen the restaurant thoroughly clean and tidy, and I have seen it with dirty tables and messy floors, it's hit and miss. We like their condiment bar and having the option of mild, medium or hot sauce; we usually mix to create that perfect blend for our taste buds. There are plenty of items to choose from on the menu even some vegetarian options, which I finally tried the other day during our take out lunch.
I decided to order the vegetarian burrito as well as three tacos with shredded beef, my husband, had them make a carne asada burrito (meat, pico de gallo and avocado) like he usually does. I have to say; this was my first time eating a vegetarian burrito, so I have nothing to compare it to, for that being said, I enjoyed it! The burrito was huge and filled with several cooked veggies, rice, and beans, it was great trying something new, and I would order it again! My husband said the tacos were ok, he didn't care for the shredded beef in the tacos and I never had a taco, nor do I know why I ordered shredded beef as my choice. He liked (not loved) his Carne Asada Burrito but made a point to mention the one thing he missed about living in San Diego was the authentic Mexican food and the awesome carne asada burrito he would buy often.
As far as the staff goes, when it comes to being friendly or standoffish, that too is very random.
The restaurant shares a parking lot with a few other businesses, but we have always managed to get parking during lunch time. I have never used the restrooms their for I can not offer up an opinion. I would suggest trying the restaurant at least once; you never know...
Read moreWe went there on Taco Tuesday. Early enough to beat the crowd. We ordered 2/4 taco plates ( one to go) w/ground beef, cilantro and onion; Camarones Al Mojo De Ajo/Carne Asada w/whole beans. Chips and 2 drinks. What we received was; 4 cold tacos w/ ground beef. Enchilada plate w/ ground beef, onion and refried beans. Chips, previously made from the holding case. Camarones/Carne Asada w/ refried beans and 2 drinks. The reason for 3 stars: 1. Incorrect order. 2. I'm house tacos were cold but To- Go order hot. 3. Chips. Well. Chips are chips. 4. Salsa Bar. Variety of choices but lacking in flavor. Zero salt ( you can add that though from the table). Cabbage slaw w/ raw jalapeno, black pepper and onion that was not spicy (spicy flavor); straight up hot. Not in the good way. 5. Free refillable fountain drinks; excluding horchata or fresca. 6. Carne Asada was a thin tasty strip, cooked as requested. Camarones were an undercooked few w/ canned mushrooms ( you can taste and feel the can), red pepper flakes, jarred and minced garlic that you could not taste, but felt in your mouth and onion. Dried refried beans w/a sprinkle of old cheddar cheese ( broken and did not melt) and some flavorful dried rice. Enchiladas were unpacked w/ ground beef and fresh white onion; wrapped in a corn tortilla w/ a label of red sauce and topped with pretty, green cabbage. Served with the same dried refried beans and rice. The Enchiladas were not baked or surrounded in creamy goodness in any way. Bottom line. for $71.00. The advantage is the salsa bar that you can add all the salt, lime or Tapatio sauce ( kindly provided at the table) that you require to fill your tummy in a good and ungross way. This restaurant has...
Read moreFirst time at this place, and I admit reluctance. Mexican food is my husbands favorite, so we've sampled a lot over 40 years. TLC set up shop in a bldg God Fathers Pizza used to inhabit. No renovations, no redecorating. Just their sign on the street side and a few stock food pictures on the windows. Nothing about it spoke to me. But on this night the siren song was loud for hubby so in we went. Right off it smelled wonderful! Also riggt off you realize they really REALLY didn't waste money re doing anything on the customer side of the counter. Yes counter. They have menus you may take to any open seat you like to look at. Then you go to the counter to order and pay. You take your number to your table and your order will be brought to you. You'll be served a bowl of chips while you wait, but condiments for them are self serve at a side station. After your meal arrives you are pretty much on your own. There really is no table service. Extras after your served, like sour cream or ? Are not comp. Go to the counter order and pay for it. Different, but once you know then hey, you will not be interupted endlessly by staff and I'm good with that. They are present however, and very friendly! The place is clean, seating is spacious and accessable, as are the bathrooms. The menu was entirely predictable, nothing I wouldn't expect on an Azteca menu. But it was prepared well, portions were very generous and even somewhat cheaper than the chains. We took boxes home with us (and actually ate them!)and I would have to say I'll go back sometime. The 3 stars are due to the self serve nature, not the...
