I believe in transparency, so I am leaving the original review I wrote below. If nothing else, I want people to see how much more satisfied I was this trip. Note, this most recent review reflects how I feel about Amerigo's now, having visited three times, and only having one less-than-great experience (not bad, just average). I have adjusted the rating to reflect our comprehensive satisfaction.
The service here has always been good, and tonight was no different. The server who took care of us was kind, helpful, and promptly brought out each dish we ordered.
We also love the atmosphere. It's casual, but not so casual that it detracts from being a good "date night" spot.
As usual, the bread before the meal was amazing. It's served warm and it's always been soft and chewy and presented with a perfectly seasoned olive oil to dip it in.
We also ordered Caesar salads, as we have in the past. Again, they were spot on. The dressing tastes scratch made and fresh, as it has the other times we visited.
My wife ordered the La Carne pizza. It was not only a good size for the price, but it was very tasty as well. The large deli-style slices of and salami and pepperoni meant that every bite was spicy and perfectly salty. The smoked mozzarella and sausage added a wonderful extra dimension to the flavor. We were both impressed.
I ordered the fettuccine imperial. The pancetta was fried up perfectly, crispy, smokey, salty; everything you expect in pancetta. I love mushrooms and the ones in this pasta were cooked well. They had absorbed all the flavors of the dish and had just the right texture: a bit toothsome, but neither hard and chewy nor soft and mushy. The sauce was very cheesy and creamy. I'm very excited that I have some of it left over for lunch tomorrow.
We also ordered dessert this time. It was called something like "Pecan Crunch Cake" I believe? It seemed to me to be a cheesecake-like slice of cake with a wonderful cinnamon caramel sauce baked under it, and a brown sugar and pecan crust. With the scoop of ice cream on the side it was definitely the right call to satisfy my usually insatiable sweet tooth. If you easily find dessert to be too rich, sweet, or decadent, this might not be the best for you, but my wife and I really enjoyed it. My only thought (not a complaint so much as an observation) is that nothing in the desert seemed particularly crunchy. A little more crunch would have been nice for some variety in the texture, but the lack of it did not stop us from devouring it all.
All in all, we were very pleased we returned a third time. Amerigo's has earned out continuing business.
OLD REVIEW (3/5 stars): The first time my wife and I went here we were extremely hungry and liked the food a lot. This time around, we felt a bit disappointed. My chicken marsala tasted a bit bland. The sauce wasn't as rich as I expected and the artichoke hearts tasted like they came straight from a can at Kroger. My wife had the carbonara, but it actually tasted like the kind of box pasta meals where the sauce mix starts as a powder. I will say though that the bread is great and the Caesar salad is very tasty. I love their dressing.
OLD EDIT: I added a star because a manager contacted me after my initial review posted. She has been extremely helpful and kind. I can tell that this is a restaurant that cares about customers, and that's worth a lot. My wife and I will return a third time. They have definitely earned another shot to earn...
Read moreWe sat in a booth by the kitchen which I could clearly see into. It was later (8:30pm) so I saw the cooks cleaning up the kitchen. I saw a guy who was wearing a blue glove on his right hand the entire night touching all different kinds of food without changing it but more frightening was that I saw him also using the same blue gloved hand using a cleaning rag wiping dirty containers off with food in them that he was putting into containers to be stored for the next day. He then used the same blue gloved hand that he had used to wipe off dirty containers to grab meat (looked like pepperoni) to also put it into a container for storing. This happened several times until I couldn’t even look anymore. The lid was up on the refrigerated items and looked really dirty to me like it needed cleaned. I’m not one to leave bad reviews unless it’s warranted. Our waiter was fantastic but he deserves to be working in a better/cleaner restaurant if you ask me. I literally threw up my dinner after getting home and will never eat there again. I’m not in the restaurant business but I know not to use a dirty cleaning rag and then touch food with it that people are going to eat. There is also a weird hand written list of food/condiments taped up on the wall with blue tape to maybe tell the employees what is in the case? Just not professional in my opinion. Shouldn’t they know what’s in the refrigerated case and if not, have it somewhere discreet and not clearly taped up on a wall with blue tape for customers to see. Like I said, I’m not in the restaurant business but when I cook at home, I would never do the things I saw in this kitchen! I’m glad I threw up instead of ending up in the hospital for food poisoning. Sorry but if you have an open glassed door kitchen, customers are going to view what’s going on. One last comment was that the bread container up high was open with no lid on it and I saw flies flying around in the kitchen. They could easily land in there without anybody knowing. Im just a person who is super concerned with food safety and hygiene. I hope a health inspector visits them to inform them of how to do better. Spending over $100 for a dinner for two it was really disappointing. I don’t want my dinner to end up in my toilet period. Not a great night to...
Read moreTo say we were DISAPPOINTED would be an understatement. Took a party of 12 for early birthday dinner. Appetizers of cheese balls, bruschetta, artichoke dip & calamari were very good. But that’s where it stopped. My veal Marsala, something I love & order often, was tough & tasteless. I regretted ordering a “little” extra watery sauce at additional charge. Everything else was fair… at best. Two ordered wine & MIA our server didn’t understood double pour. We took in a cake & candles & asked to have it brought out & as we were ready to sing I saw Mia approaching with the cake, candles unlit & lighter in hand. I motioned for her to light candles first so she went to hostess stand nearby & lit them! Unacceptable. Afterwards we waited!! And waited. I saw her in the distance & waved her over to ask for small plates & forks. She “graciously “ said we cut & serve it for you… and when the bill came someone said ‘don’t be too gracious about them cutting & serving the cake, they changed us $30!!! (That should have been mentioned!! We could have cut our own $17.95 cake instead of paying twice what we paid for it to have it cut!) And I hope you weren’t too hungry for cake with these ‘slivers’!” Bill was almost $600 which included a generous gratuity which we expected but … as a courtesy it should have been mentioned that it was added, so if not noticed could cause one to leave another gratuity. We eat out often at nice restaurants & are used to large dinner tickets, but this was way out of line!! Their arrogance including that of the server will keep us from...
