China Garden Restaurant — Restaurant in Brentwood

For several years this place was bad, closed by health department, and worst in Brentwood. Now, under new management, we gave it a try using DoorDash since our favorite Dragon City doesn’t deliver to Discover Bay nor on DoorDash (what a shame). We ordered the Joyous Dinner for 2, order of Sweet & Sour Pork, Combination Chow Mein, and an order of Eggrolls. To our surprise, it all was really good even though some improvements can be made. Combination Chow Mein, BBQ Pork Fried Rice, Fries Shrimp, Fried Chicken Wings, Wor Wonton Soup, and Vegetable Shrimp were excellent! Sweet & Sour Pork and General Tsaos Chicken did have a bit of a heavy batter that needed an extra minute to make extra crispy to prevent getting too soft with the sauce but still was good and would still order again but ask extra crispy. Sweet & Sour sauce seemed typical of most fast food places from a jar and not homemade but at least they have the Bell Peppers and Onions thick cut in it. General Tsaos Chicken sauce too light in sauce and not Spicy as it should be but atilll not that bad. Eggrolls are typical spring roll style and decent. Their Chili Oil and Paste is good but they have the BEST Hot Chinese Mustard around! A little dab goes a long ways. Too much and you’ll burn the hairs out of your nose! On a separate order I had the Spicy Combination Noodle Soup and was excellent! Had a bit of head congestion and the spiciness from the soup opened my sinuses and was able to breathe and taste. This should be an overall 4 to 4.5 star rating but gave them 5, the max, basing from where they were just a few years ago! DoorDash delivers their food fast and hot! Hope after the COVID crisis is over that they are still in business for sit down...

Finally, after 30 years, there is a very authentic Chinese restaurant in East County in Brentwood,ca. I have visited this restaurant 4 times and satisfied and pleased with what I ordered. I have ordered different styles of noodle dishes like pan fried chow mein to different entrees like beef, chicken, ribs, tofu, and vegetable dishes. Other than traveling to Concord or Walnut Creek for a good decent general Chinese (Northern or Southern) cuisine, this restaurant is now my number 1 Chinese restaurant in the area. I have other favorites for pure Northern, Southern, and Dim sum restaurants. This restaurant was opened 5 years ago and I have noticed this place for years, but thought it was another average Chinese eatery, glad I visited this place a few months ago and found they had dishes that are not offered at other nearby restaurants and they do cook authentic northern and southern Chinese dishes. I have asked for dish of food not in the menu and I was surprised they were able to comply and surprise me with a very good dish. I have traveled and visited Chinese restaurants in areas of San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, Vancouver, BC, Texas, New York and Florida, this restaurant is not the best, but it is very good...

I looked on the website and decided the dishes off the menu displayed. Then calling in my order on the phone as a takeout, I was unable to get my order through correctly to the person on the phone. When picking up my order I was dismayed at the cost and tried to discuss the problem but the girl kept insisting her pricing was right. Checking things afterward found there was such a thing as an online order menu that had a whole different price structure and did not have some of the items on it that I had originally tried to order. So no wonder I ran into problems with the cashier. Am majorly disappointed and feel cheated by this marketing ploy. I will not rate this restaurant on food quality or any other criteria as the difference nearly $20 would have to put this food/restaurant in a superlative category which it does...
