Rocky’s is a family tradition for us. I’ve been coming to this quaint little restaurant for as long as I can remember. I grew up visiting Brevard where my grandparents lived since 1997 (and had their house as a vacation home since the 1970’s). Now I bring my own kids who have also fallen in love with it’s food and nostalgic flair. Every visit we come down to Rocky’s soda shop to enjoy their signature gourmet hot dogs and delicious malts. When they closed a couple years ago we were all devastated so you can imagine our joy when we found out they were reopening under new ownership! This is the first time we’ve been back since they closed and perhaps the last since my grandparents both passed and my mom is moving out of the area. We were excited to have one last hurrah as a family.
I know it takes time to establish a business and since this is under new ownership I will give grace. I want this company to remain as a staple in downtown Brevard so I will share my thoughts as constructive criticism with the hope that it will only help improve the establishment. First, the prices have gone up. I realize this is the nature of the world and staggering inflation we are all facing. Still we spent $68 for two shared dishes (a gluten free burger meal split in two and a double hot dog meal split in two), a pimento cheeseburger, and two small malts. They used to have house made chips and now it’s just a bag. I’d love if they brought in fresh French fries instead. There is no kids menu. I was disappointed that they got rid of the gluten free hotdog bun (which was just gluten free bread from the bakery next door folded into a bun). The upcharge for the gluten free burger bun and cheese made it quite pricey for what it was. The burger itself tasted highly processed, like a frozen grocery store burger. The hotdogs were stellar as usual. The malts were good but significantly thinner than they used to be. Service was meh. Responsive and quick but lacked friendliness that we were used to seeing. Spotted one smiling employee out of maybe 6 or 7. Overall, a trip down memory lane and a sweet little lunch spot but it’s missing the charm, warmth and value that it...
Read moreOur first experience at Rocky’s Brevard was interesting to say the least! The food and service was great! However, there is a woman who comes in every day and sits at the bar, a patron, whom came up to our table and asked to hold our baby while we ate ‘as long as she wasn’t too whiney’. We politely declined and the woman just stared at us in disbelief. I was honestly afraid, and shocked! The server explained she had disabilities and comes in every day, and they didn’t know what to do about it. No manager around. Then, the red headed lady who checks you out felt it ok to come up to us, at our table, and kiss my 3 month old daughter on her head. Then, proceeded to us that ‘it was ok, because she had a 3 wk old grandson and had a nurse and doctor living with her so it was ok’. We were shocked, and appalled at the audacity of this women! To top it off, as she walked by again she grabbed my nephews shoulder! Again, this women! Still, no manager around. We leave. And, still no manager. I have called numerous times and the staff either does not know where the manager is and tells me they will return at a certain time and to call back then, I call then, and still no manager present. So, when dining at Rocky’s be prepared to have wackos kissing and grabbing your children. That is why I’m giving Rocky’s one star. It’s sad when the food and environment is great but you're bothered by certain staff members and other patrons of questionable...
Read moreMy husband and I were in Brevard this past weekend for the White Squirrel Festival with our kids and grandkids. My husband and I decided to go in for a quick ice cream. We entered through the store entrance which was very crowded. We took a seat at the counter and was greeted by an employee there we knew. We did not know at this time that there was a waiting list to be seated. A younger male employee approached us to let us know there was a waiting list and we would have to leave or be put on the list. I told him that there should be signs at both entrances stating that fact. He was VERY rude to us and told us there were signs every where and that we needed to just leave. At this point my husband was shocked to be spoken to in this way, so he started using colorful lanfuage and we left. We looked fir the signs and yes there were signs but not easily visible due to the crowd and the sign had been pushed aside from the crowd. I straightened the sign so this wouldn't happen to someone else. It was an honest mistake and I do not think that this young employee should have been so rude. My husband is a native of Brevard and we have always supported the shops in town. We will no longer be supporting this business though. I know they will not miss our patronage and it will not impact them in any way but, if something isn't done with the rude employee, then we will not be the only ones who stop walking through...
