I’ve been a Bagel King for many many years. I remember, in the 70s, taking the bus with my friends to the Trumbull Mall (Westfield Mall now?) to go to Korvettes, one of the anchor stores, to the music department to buy 45s (singles) and albums that I saved every cent of my 50 cent allowance and dimes from my Dad’s Aunt Jessie (next door) for carrying groceries to the second floor etc, just to buy those 45s and occasional albums. Every Saturday was our ritual. Each trip ended with a stop at Bagel King for bagels to eat on the bus on the trip home. That beautiful stained glass window is a wonderful memory from my childhood and my pre-teen years right on up to this day (40+ years). My son is going there at 7am to grab us our favorite bagels. My favorite is a salt bagel with olive and pimento cream cheese. I can hardly wait! Thanks and kudos to Ron for being such a wonderful part of most of my life!! You earned many loyal customers from my generation and many age groups before my weekly trips right on to this day November 26, 2017! Btw, The Fairfield Avenue Bagel King has...
Read moreSo, Ba King and I have a love-hate relationship. I feel like the servers there are prejudiced. I noticed that throughout the state of Connecticut where there're a lot of Hispanic servers with a black person walking into the establishment they have an attitude therefore I became very reluctant in spite of my money at any of these establishments as a black woman in Connecticut. I'll explain why I said this, one morning I walked into bagel King and the Hispanic service saw me and immediately she turned her back away from, me. I then asked her "why she turned around when she saw me" she claims "she didn't see me" at the time I was the only customer that walked in the store., so I walked out without buying anything. I was so mad, because really needed a cup of coffee They have great food, I do like the place, but they have to work on their prejudice, their minorities just like us. The thing is she doesn't know if I'm rich or poor she just saw a black woman. Maybe, it's me, but it's not the first time I've experienced this type of...
Read moreI'm long overdue for a Bagel King review. I've been eating either here or at the downtown BPT location for a few years now. I've had their bagel with lox, cream cheese and capers, which was really good. I've also had their french toast bagel with maple cream cheese, LOVE the egg bagel (if there are any left), but majority of the time I'm going to order the turkey, ham, and roast beef on a Portuguese roll - or something similar to it. I didn't order my own food this time and I had to take off a star because there was a language barrier which made the whole process THAT much harder for my bf. I don't see why that's something that's still happening in 2019. There have also been a couple of times when the downtown location didn't have pickles - which come with the sandwich orders. Other than that Bagel King is usually very consistent with both food and service. I'd definitely recommend it. I enjoyed my sandwich today and it was the first whole lunch I've consumed in...
