Cafeteria Marla's Restaurant — Restaurant in Bridgeport

The food is good here. The pernil is my favorite from here. I've gone quite a few times since 2021. They are one the pricier side and recently have raised their prices some more. Given inflation I can understand but they are very skimpy with the food which is unfortunate. As a customer you should still get what you pay for. Their "small" ($8) is really a mini and their "large" is really a regular. I recently went to get a "large" pernil rice and beans which is $10.00 but the server put two scoops of rice which clearly is not even a half of the container full and I asked her to add more rice and she said it would be extra. She then called the owner when I asked her why. He then came and said if I wanted more rice added it would be extra but I explained that I didn't want extra I just wanted the fair amount of rice for the "large" it was clearly not even half way full. He refused unless I paid extra but because of them being unreasonable I decided to leave it as it and he proceeded to take some more of the rice out. He added very little beans and an okay amount of pernil. I was uncomfortable after the conversation and just wanted to leave. I have gone there in the past and have heard customers say "add more rice" or "can you put some more" because they also notice how little they put, but this time with me they did not think it was fair to add the adequate amount of food for what I paid for. The time before this I went and another customer got a few sides - no meat and she was charged $25 and asked why it was so high she was a little upset as well. The can soda's are now $1.50. I hope they make some changes in regards to the amount of food for what you pay for because the food is good but you should get your money's worth. Finally got to try this place and I am so happy that I did! I wish I hadn't waited so long. It's very cold out and walking into this warm great smelling restaurant was so comforting. I was immediately greeted by a friendly woman behind the counter with a hello and smile. I ordered my favorite -- yellow rice and beans with roast chicken. Everything tasted awesome! Got two leg pieces and the meat fell off the bones, cooked perfectly with crispy and flavorful but not burnt skin. The beans were not mushy with a classic but yummy taste. The potato ball was perfect, crunchy on the outside smooth on the inside with just the right amount of meat. Can't express how good this place was!!!!! I'll definitely be returning and bringing friends...

Terrible experience here. All I wanted was some soup. Waited in line for a while just to be skipped over. When I politely mentioned I was next, the woman completely ignored me. Multiple people said I was next but she still proceeded to ignore me. The gentleman she skipped me for asked the server to take my order first as I was next. She looked up at us and said no. At this point I am super agitated so a man, what looked like the owner, came and took my order but never addressed the issue with the staff member. He just apologized. I want to mention I have never been here before and I am never coming back. And all of this for some nasty soup!!!...
