I have currently not visited a more charmingly cozy restaurant. Their ice cream is all freshly made with a fantastic selection, and their family-friendly menu makes it the perfect place to bring the kids.
The building is quite large, with a handful of different seating areas in different rooms, which helps space out the noise of a crowd. It feels very comfortable. The decor is country charm, splashed with color, which certainly gives it an upbeat vibe. The waitstaff is incredibly courteous and always accommodating. The ice cream window in the front of the building is awesome to grab a treat while avoiding walking inside the building.
The parking is great as their are multiple overflow lots. The building is on a hill with a tiered hike up some stairs to a decent sized stone patio, which is a great place to enjoy your ice cream with the kids in the summer. Wheelchair access would be through the front door up the driveway hill if you can not grab a parking spot out front.
The price point is decent for the times. The food portions are fairly standard. I could probably have my kids split a kids' meal if they could ever agree on the same meal. The ice cream portions are massive. A single scoop waffle cone is definitely large enough for my kids to split... again... if they could agree on the same flavor. So, with two kids, each eating their own meal, with the included ice cream scoop upcharged into a waffle cone, with plenty leftover for all of us, we managed to stay under $50 after tip. Not bad at all, especially since it is located within a 3 min drive from a decent playground and sports field on Chimney Rock Rd, making it a perfect picnic lunch/dinner...
Read moreWe loved Gabriel’s fountain for years now and have been regulars. We tried to go for dinner today to celebrate a birthday and support a local business. The manager told us they had a policy of not allowing people to sit until they have seen them with their mask, not a problem. We came up and showed them we were all wearing masks. My husband waited outside with our 11 month old because she’s tiny and can’t wear a mask. We were then told that it was store policy to force customers to walk through the store to get to the outdoor seating. It wasn’t allowed for my husband to go around the side with our baby so she wouldn’t be I close proximity to other people.
We were literally standing within feet of the outdoor seating area and yet we were bluntly told “No. it’s store policy”. I refused to bring my unmasked baby into their store for no good reason, causing unnecessary risk being indoors which was crowded with ice cream customers and a bunch of others around the entrance all not wearing masks. I’m disgusted by the manager who refused to compromise or give any sort of explanation. We sat in the parking lot watching customers coming and leaving the outdoor seating area without going through the store so not sure why the policy exists or why they couldn’t just let a baby who is too small for a mask just go in the side entrance. I never write bad reviews especially not about small businesses but, poor customer service aside, this is a health issue. Sadly we...
Read moreMy husband got the idea to take the family out for ice cream tonight, but with the constraints of giving the boys their bath and getting them to bed on time, we decided instead to go someplace we could get dinner AND ice cream. Gabriel's Fountain fit that bill; it's close to home and was on my list, has ice cream as well as food.
We thought the vibe was super cute, and there's a patio that would be great to hang out and eat food or ice cream. The food options are really varied but we went with pretty low key, standard meals. The boys got mac and cheese, my husband got a Jazzed Up BLT with onion rings and I got a Chicken Portobella Wrap. Mine was really interesting, so tasty, and HUGE. I could only eat half and saved the other for tomorrow's lunch. My husband enjoyed his sandwich (and didn't even offer a taste; guess it was THAT good!), saying the bacon was cooked just the way he likes it and the bread was tasty.
We then ordered ice cream. The choices are extensive and different from anything you'd find anywhere else. We got a sundae with Scarlet Knight (the Rutgers love extends far and wide), which is chocolate ice cream with cream cheese frosting and red velvet cake, and a banana flavor (forgetting the name and it's not on their online menu) with brownie chunks.
Our food was great, the place has a great atmosphere and is...
