Man, I hate writing bad reviews. And most times I just brush stuff off. But I canât just brush todayâs experience off. If I could give a negative star review I would.
For starters, my husband and I had an opportunity to eat out by ourselves. So we decided on Champs. We have read good things about their burgers and also saw them on the news about getting the grant. I thought this place sounds great.
I go on google a few hours before and see some recent - not so good reviews, but we decided to try them anyways. Everyoneâs experience is different. What I found was very similar to the recent reviews. I should have listened to my gut when I questioned if we should visit here.
We walked in and waited by the front door. We have never been at Champs before so we DID NOT KNOW that it was seat yourself. We stood by what looked like a hostess table for 5-10 minutes as the two waitresses walked by and not once acknowledged us. They cleaned off a few tables near the door and still proceeded to ignore us. There was another group at the back entrance, so it was not clear who would get the first table. I was up for sitting wherever. As a side note, the empty chairs at the bar had food and drinks at them so it looked like the people simply went to the restroom.
After about 10 minutes waiting, the bartender guy comes over and rudely says âYou know you can sit any where.â Thanks dude! But we have never been here before. Would have been nice if someone would have said that when we walked in. So we proceed to follow him over to an empty table (which was a 2 person table) and he moves it closer to the 4 person table. (I assume for the group in the back). Now why tell us to sit anywhere if you have bar seats that are dirty and you just took the last table - 2 person table - we were going for.
That just set us off and we talked out. On the way out the bartender give us a snarky âBYEâ of which I did in fact flip him the bird.
Now I donât care about what capacity they are seating at. Restaurants have a right to seat at 100%. But I was shocked to see not one employee had a mask. Not even tried to have it on period.
Sadly we did not get to try Champs.
You do you Champs, but when you are in the spotlight and on the news I would think you would want better service. Luckily there are other businesses on Main Street that we can eat at. If I ever act the way I saw the employees act, at my job, I would be off the job in a...
Read moreThey are known for their burgers and that's what we ordered. Delicious!! Where we felt they failed was the waitress. She was rude! When drinks were emptied, she grabbed those glasses off our table without asking if we'd take another. Which we intended to do however, nope. She also left our check on the table for us, while we were still eating. Then 5-10 minutes came to check our bill if we left the payment with it, she picked it up and hit it back down to where you heard a slap. I stopped her and asked, is it the end of your shift? I can pay now however, I usually dont pay until I've finished my meal. She scoffed at me, said no and walked away. What if I wanted something else? Why would I pay then? If it had been the end of her shift, I would have paid. Our friends had asked for other drinks and she grabbed their glasses and in return, slammed down their replacements. She did not receive a good tip. We met with friends we hadn't seen in quite awhile at Champs. We expected good food and good service. At least we got good food! Oh, one other thing to add. Closing time... The website clearly states 11pm on a Friday. They turned down the lights at 10:15pm. There was one other table with people. At 10:25pm, they left. Champs turned off music. hint hint, ok, in our minds we had till 11pm. We ended up leaving at 10:30pm with this waitress locking the door behind us at 1030pm, 30 minutes before closing time. We ended up going over to the slider place and ordered more food and drinks. The lady there was so much nicer and received a way better tip! She did warn us that their kitchen would close soon but didn't balk at us for being there late. Champs, your burgers are delicious! But, we most likely will not be back because of the older lady in the blue shirt waiting on us on...
Read moreThis is a pretty well known establishment in the Brighton area. After driving by for over two years saying that I really wanted to stop in and try the place, I didâAnd I immediately began wondering why I had waited so long to stop in. When you walk in you will immediately notice that it looks very much like an old school neighborhood pub that you may have walked in and inadvertently stumbled out of at some point in your life. A look that to me adds quite a bit to the aesthetic to the entire experience of eating and drinking here. One of the first things that you will also notice is that this place is pretty tinyâthough they do offer some outdoor seating options as well, it does seem a bit cramped, especially if it gets busy...which it does. Other than the size, which to me isn't a bad thing at all, the place in general is clean and the staff is friendly. Probably one of the most well known things about this place is their vast variety of both draft and bottle beer and the food. They have incredibly good burgers, many of which are made from other things than just beef. This is by far one of my favorite places to grab a quick bite to eat in the Brighton area. It really is..that good. They also have a small merch area where you can pick up t-shirts and other items that may tickle your fancy. Another odd but neat feature is the "cell phone room". I didn't go in this room myself, but I could only presume that it is exactly what it says it is, a room for you to talk on your phone in.
If you're in the area, stop in and thank me later....
