Ah Tong Phoon! What to say! This little family-owned Thai restaurant is a real treat! From the vast menu to the wonderful service, I couldn't recommend this place more.
THE FOOD: I went at lunch time and ordered their Pad Thai noodles with tofu. It was sweet yet savory and the noodles were perfect, being a very soft with the slightest bit of chewiness. I'm terrible at describing food, but I promise you Tong Phoon's Pad Thai was even better than Tong D's (my former favourite Thai restuarant over in Barrington). Tong Phoon knows how to properly fry their tofu so it's not too crispy but not too soft either. My noodles were accompanied by 3 "crispy rolls" (basically egg rolls) with sweet & sour sauce. I tried their garden soup and their pineapple fried rice, courtesy of my siblings, and I wasn't disappointed by those either. Just a warning is that some of their foods like the soups and crispy rolls are HOT, like burnin' hot lava hot. So just be careful before consuming right away! Oh also just a note: their water is like, great. They said they filter their water which is great because other restaurants, even some fine restaurants, just use tap water. This place serves filtered water though and you can tell haha.
THE STAFF: And the staff! The man and the woman I was served by there, whose names I didn't learn unfortunately, were so kind! They were so patient, always served us with a smile, and they even had their son helping out (I think? Maybe a very young brother---or maybe their dad who has Benjamin Button syndrome or something!). He was adorable, bringing out our menus and waters, he was so professional for such a young boy (or possibly an old man!).
NEW YEAR'S TREAT: The best part was at the end, I believe it was part of their New Year celebration, theu let us play a little game where if we spent over $40 then we'd win a small prize and a large prize if over $70. We spent just under $70 though so my little sister drew a number from the bucket the little boy brought out, and she won a little plush teddy bear! Truly a unique and pleasant experience.
I noticed before I left that they have many desserts and bubble tea! I'll be sure to come back for bubble tea soon! Thank you...
Read moreThe best thai food that I have ever had, hands down. The owners are a nice family, and they were very attentive and welcoming. I started off with thai iced tea with tapioca bubbles and it was amazing. Then came an appetizer; the scallion pancakes were crisp and solid tasting. I tried the ginger pork, chicken pad se ew, and tofu drunken noodles while sharing with others in my group. They were all so delicious and full of strong flavor! All of it tasted homemade and nothing felt like it was from a mix or a can, everything was very fresh. There was plenty of food and the prices were reasonable. Tong phoon is the best thai restaurant in Rhode Island and I'll definitely...
Read moreMy husband and I have gone to hundreds of restaurants of all calibers throughout the country. In our opinion, Tong Phoon provides the most consistently fresh and consistently well made food we have ever had. It is our go-to recommendation to anyone traveling to Bristol, RI or the surrounding area. Out of the 30-40 times we have been, only once did we have even the slightest "complaint" about the food, and it was only a few bites of seafood were a touch overcooked. Other than that, absolute perfection! My husband's go-to is the Drunken Noodles and mine is the Phoon Garlic with a seafood medley. If you are contemplating trying it out, you will...
