Great Creative Comfort Food from Chef Randy Ross
Judge Roy Bean Saloon has new owners and a totally new vibe. They still have lots of live music, but what they now have is great food. Chef Randy Ross and partner Zach Rivers really make this place shine. You can see the care Zach takes in answering reviews, and you can taste the care that Chef Randy Ross puts into the food.
Wednesdays are Half Price Wing night $4 for an entire plate of wings and not average wings either-CLASSIC BUFFALO, STICKY POMEGRANATE, HONEY WHISKEY BBQ, OR CRISPY ONION DIJON. I had to pomegranate, and they were excellent, not too sticky or sweet. The dipping sauce was great-BUTTERMILK CHIVE CRÈME.
They have a few more interesting apps-NARRAGANSETT BEER BATTERED CHEESE CURDS&LITTLE NECK, CHOURICO & CORN CHOWDER, and three interesting salads all are $7.95. For an entree I had the chicken meatloaf over sweet potato waffles, roasted broccoli rabe & cranberry ketchup! I was so impressed. Actually they were out of the rabe, and thy substituted brussels sprouts of which I am not a fan. No problem for Barry the Bartender. Away they went, although I did try 2, and they were good if I HAD to eat brussels sprouts. What he brought me instead was a small side salad which isn't on the menu, but you can request. It was arugula with house roasted baby romas and pickled onions- who puts that kind of care into a house salad? Obviously Chef Randy Ross who is a young upcoming chef- watch out! They have some creative burgers and vegetarian options and lots of specials. See Facebook for the most up to date info.
They have a good number of taps, nothing rare in the Craft beer line, but solid. I had the strawberry margarita, and it was a puree not a simple syrup, $7 for the house and $9 for a Patron upgrade. Barry the bartender was great once again.
The crowd at the bar ranged from RWU law students taking about guns, to locals in for the Dogfish beer dinner, to middle age men talking about how to get a good night's sleep with kids around. Bristol closes up tight after 5PM. This is a...
Read moreAbsolute worst service I have ever experienced. My group’s wait staff was AWFUL. We got there for our dinner reservations at around 6:30 pm but never got dinner. The waitress’ name was either Victoria or Alexandria but she was hardly a waitress. She was so inattentive. We got an appetizer and then hardly any interaction between the appetizer and finally asking the hostess for our waitress so we could finally place our dinner orders because our waitress just wasn’t coming over and giving us the opportunity to put in for dinner. So we finally got our dinner orders in at around 7:15 and then the hostess comes over and says they’re all out of corn beef and nothing else. Leaving us all confused to if we are getting dinner or not. Nobody asked if we wanted something else instead. Maybe 15 minutes later the waitress comes over with our drinks that we ordered with dinner and says sorry about that guys. So we asked if we were getting our food and she says no. But never asked if we wanted anything else. It was a very awkward encounter. So we asked for our check which also took forever to come. Finally around 8 we got to leave. But this waitress made the experience so awful. She hardly asked us about drinks, food or anything. She was so awkward and uncomfortable and inattentive. I’m not mad the restaurant ran out of their special. I’m mad it was like pulling teeth to order anything here and because of that we missed dinner. The drinks were good and the cheese curds were good. The service...
Read moreWhile a Sunday at 6pm should be a crowded experience, we found The Bean to be almost empty. A quick seat and fast initial service gave us a sense of matter to our visit, that was soon to disappear. Drink order was taken, no silverware provided. Drinks were delivered and our order taken, still no silverware, no napkins. Asked for a glass of water, water arrived after my Appetizer an afterthought on our servers part. Clam Chowder, excellent flavor, top notch offer however, served tepid was it's demise. After ASKING for silverware, my water arrived. Sill no napkins, again I had to request a basic staple of a dining table. Our Entrees arrived, and of course the order was wrong, I had to wait for the side I ordered to arrive. Never did our server stop by to ask how we were fairing. We were feeling as a red headed step child would feel at a family reunion. We didn't want to overstay our welcome, as we were not made comfortable during our visit we left sans dessert. This was not our first visit to The Bean however, it may be our last. Shameful as we did enjoy the food and atmosphere. It's 2023, post apocalypse, surely one...
