The park was really nice, and didn't feel like you were in the city at all, because it was kind of secluded. I haven't lived far from it for nearly 5 years now and wish I had gone so many years ago!
The day I went the was a large section "gated off" with orange plastic construction fencing that was off limits to anyone due to new plantings, but still plenty of room for dogs and humans to play.
There's a nice playground for kids that thankfully isn't fenced off from dogs, so your kids AND dogs can play at the same time! I lost count of how many kids stopped playing and asked to pet the "doggy" or "puppy" as people passed.
The walking path was a nice little distance, but nothing told you how far one lap was, so I'd be curious to know, and it could most certainly be at least 1/2 again wider, if not twice as wide! I think that was really probably the only reason I took off a star.
The path was just too narrow! While it made the whole park much more accessible for me as a whole, I always felt like my dog and I were in the way because (it was muddy) and people had to walk off the path around my wheelchair to pass us, for the most part. There were also parts that were kind of flooded out with mud puddles, so I had a pretty muddy pup at the end even though she was always on the path.
Just a caution! Although it was fine for me and in truth kind of fun, there is one area of the path with a speed-bump-esque tree root growing under it. Just mind your step, stroll, stroller, or child there and you'll be fine. It's a fact of life in an old city, but worth noting.
**I did not remove a star for these two reasons but ask people to be mindful of them.
Oh, imagine a land, it's a faraway place Where the caravan camels roam Where you wander among every culture and tongue It's chaotic, but, hey, it's home
When the wind's from the East And the sun's from the West And the sand in the glass is right Come on down, stop on by Hop a carpet and fly To another Arabian night
As you wind through the streets At the fabled bazaars With the cardamom-cluttered stalls You can smell every spice While you haggle the price Of the silks and the satin shawls
Oh, the music that plays as you move through a maze In the haze of your pure delight You are caught in a dance You are lost in the trance Of another Arabian night
Arabian nights Like Arabian days More often than not are hotter than hot In a lot of good ways Arabian nights Like Arabian dreams This mystical land of magic and sand Is more than it seems
There's a road that may lead you To good or to greed through The power your wishing commands Let the darkness unfold or find fortunes untold Well, your destiny lies in your hands Only one may enter here One whose worth lies far within A diamond in the rough
Arabian nights Like Arabian days They seem to excite, take off and take flight To shock and amaze Arabian nights 'Neath Arabian moons A fool off his guard could fall and fall hard Out there...
Read moreCame here for the off-leash aspect. Besides the fact that the front gates don’t close and there are two entrances (so it’s not 100% fenced in) it’s an almost perfect spot. The entire thing is off-leash because it’s essentially one “big” 1/2 circle of land with a tiny playground in the center. It’s mostly a dog spot, but there were little kids in the playground which I loved because there is no fence around the playground - so everyone (dogs & humans) are in the same space. This location is off-leash from dawn to 1PM. Parking was super easy right in front of the park (unless I wasn’t supposed to park there which is always possible).
PROs: Off-leash, clean, many dog/human friends, and parking.
CONs: Isn’t...
