Well I travel the state and have found some truly wonderful Mexican food that has me believing as a state we are in great shape.
However I was just surprisingly impressed and a little surprised that the Mexican restaurant closest to my own home is the best. I’ve been overlooking it since it opened.
I will say northern Brooklyn Park is kind of loading up on great ethnic restaurants and I’m hoping a Polish one opens soon, though not sure the current demographics will lead to that. Just saying I’d be down for it.
Back to today’s discovery, which actually began last minute last night when I got a take out order of steak fajitas, jalapeño poppers, and churros. Take out always knocks the grade of food down in my opinion, so I could tell this place had the potential to be special and so far a visit in person tonight is proving so.
This place just took the top spot over Worthington and oddly enough to me Litchfield as my new favorite Mexican haunt and YES SO CLOSE TO HOME. I mean I have two great Thai restaurants and a sushi one that rock nearby too.
However adding in the atmosphere and my weakness for great personalities and service this place hit a home run tonight and I suspect it will be a regular visit for early dinners (the place is always packed when I hit the very food Chineses take out a few doors down. Guess I really should have known from that.)
The 4.4 seems like they’ve been harshly graded and they are still relatively new so maybe they were still finding their rhythm, or… to many were grading them on take out. Mexican is so much better piping fresh even more so than many other foods.
Tonight I had the poppers again and they were great. Then I went with chimichangas over the Mojarra Fritas (next visit) and I love them extra crispy and it was great though I will go well done next time. Personal preference but didn’t affect the lovely flavor or of the accompanying sides (rice, refried beans with perfect flavor, guacamole, and fresh lettuce and onions. Plus diced tomatoes snuck over from my poppers plate.)
You get complimentary chips and salsa that are warm and fresh so an appetizer is not needed but well a great spoiled treat. Also I’m not much of a drinker but had their two for one (this evening or happy hour not sure?) margaritas and the first was strong and he toned back the second one for me and it was lovely.
I have a new STATE favorite, to add to my local haunts list. I may try the tilapia this coming Friday. :)
I may try the churros for desert before I leave, but that may be the margaritas talking. :D
P.s. I did get the churros again. I’m overly full but even more...
Read moreI usually stop in for a quick drink and watch a sports game, the margaritas are great and I like the salsa and queso dip. The space is aesthetically pleasing, I think the location is great and the atmosphere is relaxing, however, I wish the staff would do a better job of cleaning and get the place exterminated, for example i've had separate incidents where fruit flies circulate the bar area on several visits and it's gross and uncomfortable. Another occasion a huge bin of chips fell on the floor near a back sink area it was loud and noticeable but then I noticed they sat there for a good 40 minutes until a staff halfway swept them in the trash, (there were still chips under the sink that I can see), another time while sitting at the bar, I saw a roach crawling on a tequila bottle, and more recently Oct2024 a friend ate there and reported back that they noticed a roach on their PLATE ! they notified staff immediately....all said, I still gave them another try and so I had a drink on the patio outside around 8PM and I saw a mouse running underneath the table, too close for comfort. I wonder if the staff needs to take a few days/weeks to shut down and get the 'additional' living things out for good and refresh upon cleaning procedures. I also think the bar stools are short, as the bar table seems like 6 feet tall for someone who's average height, the stools should have an...
Read moreGenuinely the worst experience I've ever had in a restaurant. We didn't get to order drinks until we'd been sitting for almost half an hour, after repeatedly asking for our server, or (after the 2nd ask) anyone who could get us water. We started asking other servers who were walking by if we could get water, and they ignored us or said yes but didn't follow through. When we put in the drink order we asked for waters and still didn't get them. When the drinks arrived we asked for waters and still didn't get them. When the food started to arrive we asked for waters and still didn't get them. Eventually a member of our group got up and found our server and said we needed water. We then got waters for 3 of the 5 people at the table LOL. Initially only 3/5 people got their food, until another server (possibly a manager) came by and asked the other 2 what they'd ordered. They got their food 15 minutes after giving their orders a second time. I was going to just let this all go and never return to this restaurant, but 4 of us woke up in the middle of the night with diarrhea. Now it seems like an act of public service to leave a 1 star review and warn other people to stay away. What a shame, the restaurant that was in this space...
