I grew up in the Los Angeles area. I remember eating Church's chicken back in the 1980s and early 90s. Then I moved to the Pacific Northwest and haven't eaten at a Church's in about 31 years. One of the worst things about getting older is that you remember what food tasted like. Back before steroid fed chickens and genetically modified crops. Fast forward to 2024. I am in Brookshire, Texas, and there's a Church's Texas chicken right up the street from my hotel. Order the 3 piece meal that came with aside of Mac and cheese and a biscuit. I also ordered a frosted biscuit, a side of mashed potatoes and gravy, and fried okra. I don't think that they would purposely change a winning fried chicken recipe. Maybe it is the type of chickens they're using now. Or maybe there are new owners that have decided to tarnish the good name of Church's. Whatever the case is, the fried chicken I ordered did not taste like the Church's I remember eating. The chicken was dry and flavorless. All of the flavor was in the crust, and it wasn't the right flavor. Mac and cheese wasn't good. The mash potatoes tasted like those instant mashed potatoes you buy in a box. And I could not recognize the flavor of church's gravy. The okra was okay. And I have never had a frosted biscuit. It was pretty good. The strawberries soda and jalapeño were just as delicious as I remember. I felt sad. Because I went looking for a trip down memory lane. But found out that memory lane had...
Read moreThe brookshire location really should be ashamed of themselves especially the franchise owner! The absolute only reason this location gets business is because it’s located near a truck stop. Today was my second time going to the drive thru in 4 weeks. First time I went there no one acknowledged me at the drive thru so I said “ hello” the response I got was “ be patient “ the young boy in the working the drive thru is very rude and slow. I went today to the drive thru and same thing except I didn’t say hello I just sat at the drive thru setting oddly waiting. This boy is in no rush whatsoever to do anything except take your money and NOT provide a receipt. Both times I have visited have been during the lunch hour on my break. God forbid you make changes at the window… he will go to the counter on the inside and take someone else’s order before he reruns to give what you requested. I won’t speak on his appearance….. the owner should care more about his store and provide proper training for a fast food chicken spot or just shut the restaurant down. I’ve visited this place last year with no issues like this. I am not sure if management has changed but if so it...
Read moreBefore this location opened, my wife would drive by the empty lot saying how it would make a good location for a Church's. Then she could get her weekly fix without driving 20 miles. The location started off well enough and she was most pleased, since then things have changed. It started off with mistaken orders(wrong number of pieces, all dark orders when we ordered mixed etc.) now the quality of the food has changed. Two days ago we ordered a twelve piece and counted it before we left the window. When we arrived home and began to eat we found the food to be inedible. The chicken was overcooked and old, and this was at 4:00 in the afternoon just before the dinner rush. The chicken also tasted like it was cooked in very, very old oil. I'm done, I'll drive the extra miles to satisfy her craving next time. I do not like having to throw away food that i...
