Tough running a new fast food brand these days. Competition is fierce, good supplies and reliable sources scarce, and intelligent help, well ... a huge challenge. For these reasons, consistent execution is of the utmost importance.
On the plus side, we appreciated the manager (eastern fellow) engaging with guests for feedback, for better or worse. We just didn't feel comfortable providing critical news in an open setting. As well, he and his staff just endured harsh treatment from an irate drive-thru customer apparently forced to enter the store for a correction (he yelled, alarming the dining room).
We ordered a small philly, cheese+bacon fries, some traditional wings, and a cookie+cream shake.
Unfortunately, we would have liked to seen the onions fully sauteed, not partly white, raw and crunchy. The bread was borderline fresh. The steak, not bad, although not exactly laudable either. Approximate Steak-umm? Hmm ...
The fries, not bad. Steak fries with fresh potato flavor. But the cheese and bacon bits were plainly gas station level. Better plain, in our opinion.
The wings were quite good. It's terrible that they cost so much these days. NOBODY can sell them reasonably. We're suffering for the flavor until things improve. Charlie's advertises weekly deals, so it's not all bad news. Regardless, they were decently sized (similar to Beef 'O' Brady's) and cooked well. Problem was, could have been warmer. Nearly cold by the 4th wing and we're not slow eaters. Server also forget our paid condiment dip. Humans ... what are ya gonna do?
Cookie shake was nice, thick and frankly, the best part of our meal.
Although this is a rebranded facility, we found it clean and in good repair. Liked the higher ceiling. Restrooms clean, although limited to one person at a time.
Critically, given the competing market and this first impression, we cannot recommend Charlie's at this time. Too many stores with excellent plussing culture. Suggestions are: Pay strict attention to your cooking details! Cook those onions fully Toss the wings back in the fryer for a few seconds if cooled. Get a cheese sauce that doesn't taste like yellow #5 fatty sand. Real bacon, not processed bits Keep an eye on bread age Charging for condiment sauces are a downer ... a nag ... not a plus. Charge a little more on your menu items if you can't afford to include sauces. Definitely keep asking for feedback. That's good! Customer perception is #1.
We may try again in a few months. Hopefully...
Read moreExperience was pretty sad for our first time at a Charley’s Cheesesteak. Management was the issue. We spent 10 minutes trying to order off a kiosk that didn’t work with no notice or warning of issues. Workers saw us struggling and didn’t care to help. Finally we gave up and went to the register. They were aware the kiosk didn’t work then proceeded to take our order. For 2 adults and 1 child we spent $50, which wasn’t bad. When we first got served only my child and husband received drinks. I did not. They also brought out a tray of food for our table that was partially not our order. After finally getting a workers attention they then proceeded to give the table beside us only half their meal, which was originally served to us. We waited 20 minutes for my husbands meal which was sitting on a counter right behind the register only given to us after we asked. Take note I still did not receive my drink or our sides for our meals. After another 15 minutes went by we were all done with our meal still waiting on our sides when we noticed people who ordered the same sides well after us were already fully served. We asked for the rest of our food to go, when we were told our food still needed to be made. Finally after receiving the rest of our order we were able to leave. While this was all happening the manager was sitting at the table with a group of friends laughing and carrying on not assisting his crew at all. When we noticed a customer complain about the service he went to the counter shouted at the workers in the back then went back to his friends. All of his friends were also helping themselves behind the counter to whatever they wanted at the same time. We were not the only ones there who had this experience, we noticed 3 other tables have the same exact issues. Very...
Read moreThis location is brand new, with all new hires. They specialize in their namesake, cheesesteak sandwiches, along with chicken wings, and other meaty sandwiches. I ordered mine to go and ate it at home. I wasn't disappointed! My cheesesteak was fully loaded, nice and cheesy with provolone and mushrooms. There are no choices for the sub roll -- it's only white. It's not cheap (but what is nowadays?) -- I got a regular sized cheesesteak, with nothing else -- no drink, fries, etc. -- and it cost $9.99 plus tax. But the meat was tender, tasty, not full of gristle, and yucky stuff like that, so I think I got my money's worth. They have a drive thru here, too. It's a little tricky getting in, because the service road it is on that runs parallel to Broad recently became one-way, and that limits a lot where you can turn in to access Charley's. The best approach is heading north on SR 41 (Broad) and start looking for it on your right after passing thru the intersection of Cortez. There is free off-street parking and restrooms for customers. They invite customers to download an app (but I didn't), and I don't know if the app let's you order ahead. I am glad...
