I ordered an Egg Sandwich and substituted Turkey instead of Pork products because my family's Hasidic. I ask the sandwich artists if it's ok if I substitute non-pork products because I'm not supposed to eat Pork and he says it's no problem as long as I don't ask for more. When I get to the register the cashier asks for $10. I'm surprised because it's a $5 foot long. She says, meat substitution is extra. The sandwich artists explains to her that I'm Hasidic and I'm not allowed to have pork products. She looks me straight in the eye and says, "Well I'm German so what?" I respond, "Well, Hasidic isn't a nationality it's a faith, we're not allowed to eat pork." She says, "Look, the Holocaust is over! So get over it!"
I'm shocked, I just came for a meal with my friends and don't know what to say. I say, "I'm just going to ignore those comments regarding my faith, but do you understand you're being a little bit discriminatory? I'll pay $5 for this sandwich, but at this point I'd rather you keep it." Now both the sandwich artists are behind her asking her what she thinks she is doing because both of them have already told me I could substitute Turkey at no additional charge and it's Subway policy to substitute meats for people of faith.
I take the sandwich and sit down, as I'm sitting two female walk up to the counter and the cashier is then LOUDLY talking about how I should go back to my own country. My family has been here for TEN GENERATIONS! Wall Street was founded by Hasidic Jews, Israel is America's strongest Ally in the Middle East.
UPDATE: After talking at length to the Store Manager he promised things would be done. I went into the store and NOTHING has changed. I brought a group of friends with me this time to witness in case I need them for a Public Civil Case against Subway. Not only do they up-charge for meat substitution but their employers are as bad as ever. And guess what, WE HAVE IT ALL ON HIDDEN CAMERA...
Read moreJust visited the store (for lunch) for the first time, and was pleased. I walked in at 11:30 am, was second in line, and was courteously and competently served. I had one of the $6 specials, which was prepared exactly the way I wanted it-- and it was very tasty. The sandwich preparer was friendly and knew her stuff.
The customer in line in front of me-- well, she was interesting. The lady was in her 70's, slow, tedious in her questions, but they patiently worked with her-- and she would have tried anyone's patience. Nice lady, but..... Anyway, I was very impressed with the customer service skills, including the guy at the register.
As I ate my lunch (I like to read at lunch but do look up from time to time....) I noticed that they handled the lunch rush well. There were about six or seven people at a time that cued up in line, and they handled them well-- processed their orders on through and kept the line short. Efficiently handled.
Plenty of seating, and the drink fountain area was clean and well maintained. The store was spotlessly clean, tables included, and there was plenty of easy parking out front.
I travel for a living and often eat at Subway restaurants around the country because they are usually a much better alternative to other fast foods, and I get a nice hot sandwich prepared right in front of me. Fast, inexpensive and healthy. Subways get "audited" by their corporation for quality, which helps ensure a more consistent product, but obviously there are differences between their stores, due to different owners and the staff on duty.
Based on my experience today, I will definitely be back to this store, which is in my new hometown. ...
Read moreThe food is always fresh and delicious, but I doubt I will return any time soon. The person in charge of this facility really needs to consider better training for staff and management. Today with a line out of the door and the building without air-conditioning, the manager and a staff member had an all out brawl in front of everyone. This started with the staff member asking management for help as they were drowning. Management preferred to stand in front of her fan chopping veggies. This rightly sent the staff member into a rage, wrongfully the staff member began yelling at the manager and rather than doing the proper leadership move (pull said staff member out of the public eye and handle the situation) the manager engaged in this battle of the bulge until she sent the staff member home. After the fiasco the manager continued to stay in the back leaving a single more mature in her years woman to man the ship. This last staff member standing was an inspiration, with sweat pouring down her face she greeted everyone and did the absolute best she could with the hand that was dealt. After a time the manager did come out to help the rock start staff member and proceeded to toot her horn about how she was put in charge for a reason and change has to be made. This was the most unprofessional thing I've seen in a business and if it were my facility I would be appalled with the two...
