Man, I wanted to like this spot... new owners, snazzy new interior. But the dim sum is not...good. At all. It's like if some people who had no idea how to make dim sum made dim sum! They gave me REGULAR savory salty soy sauce with no sweetness to it for Beef Cheung Fun 牛肠粉 (who does that??! the sauce is the best part!). The beef itself was pretty flavorless, but inoffensive. I wouldn't get it again. The biggest crime though was the steamed pork buns. I don't know who thinks these are what steamed pork buns are/taste like, but Char Sui Bao is one of the absolute staples of dim sum. This was not that, it tasted far more like siopio asado (filipino) than anything remotely resembling a Chinese BBQ pork bun. My heart is broken... another dim sum place to cross way off the list. The service though, super polite, fast, great. That's the only good thing. Wouldn't come back until they get real dim sum.
Edit: Almost forgot! I also got the soup dumplings. What soup?? These were dry as a bone and had a weird dumpling exterior that seemed to be wheat-based or something? They were probably the most edible things I got, but savagely...
Read moreYes yes yes! It’s been at least a decade since I’ve had Chinese food that I actually got excited about, and everything about this place hit the spot for this pregnant lady. The atmosphere was full of culture, the servers were all so kind, and the food was authentic, full of flavor, and wonderful portions for the price.
I ordered the mapo tofu with pork which was outstanding and could easily feed 2 people. The green beans sautéed in garlic sauce were so flavorful and cooked well with plenty to share, the steamed soup dumplings were juicy, and the steamed BBQ pork bun was like biting into a little cloud. Our waiter was also such a delight, answered all of our questions, repeated our order back to us, and was very attentive but not overbearing.
Apparently this restaurant has been here for 20 years but just got new owners 6 months ago, so please pay them a visit! If I didn’t live in Longmont, I’d be...
Read moreMet up with my in-laws from Loveland at Hong Guan. It’s very nice to have a good quality dim sum & seafood restaurant in the north side of town. The service was friendly and great. The dim sum selection is limited however you can always order from the full menu. Now to the food: menu#25 Preserved Egg & Pork Congee is my comfort food. I have eaten it at Star Kitchen, Super Star Asian Cuisine, Happy Cafe to name a few. Hong Guan’s has the best flavor, most lean minced pork & egg. I really enjoyed it and look forward to returning. #5 Pork Sweet Rice Sticky Dumpling has become my husband’s new favorite. ———- update We returned on a weekday and the service was terrible. The young man was impatient and would not add ginger to my congee order. The dim sum quality was dismal - from the texture, the dim sum had been reheated...
