Caveat that this is a "dive bar," and I'm a big fan of dive bars. This is not a polished chain-type bar.
Review is as of December 2023.
The Night Owl is much improved since new ownership took over in the 2022-2023 time frame.
Food is provided via a food truck and is typical deep-fried bar food with a few twists. I thought it was fine but unremarkable, so I eat before I arrive, and only use the food truck in rare moments.
There are 5 pool tables in moderate condition at $1 per play, although many nights, the tables are "free to play." It's usually easy to get on a table here when other local bars are too busy. The cues are pretty rough, so I'd bring your own cue if you care about that.
AMI jukebox has plenty of 1 credit play options.
Drinks are reasonably priced.
Huge outdoor deck is great for getting fresh air, aka cigarette smoke.
Crowd is primarily regulars, and I've gotten along well with all of them, including the interesting characters one finds at dive bars.
Karaoke is currently Wednesday and Saturday nights, but I typically go Wednesday if I'm going to, because Saturday is more crowded and more loud.
Staff service is excellent on Weds - Sat, but I've seen some disgruntled staff behavior on Sun - Tues nights. The main bartender on those nights likes to keep things pretty quiet, so if boisterous fun is the goal, I now avoid those evenings. Of course, staff can change over time, so this may be soon outdated advice.
Bathrooms are tolerable, but hopefully, the owner continues to incrementally upgrade them. They are already better than under the prior owner.
Plenty of parking, but the lot is a bit rough and uneven, so keep that in mind if you have...
Read moreThis isn't about the bar, the bar is great and everyone is lovely! My problem and this review is about the bartender/manager named Roman. Everytime that me and my family have come there to play pool later on in the day, he has always been rude except for the days he's started his shift off drinking. As soon as we walk in and make our way to a pool table he gives us an irritated look that has progressed to him giving us the silent treatment when we would ask him to unlock the pool tables for free pool until 8pm, and now today he gave us the silent treatment up until he came over to unlock the table and told us that "if you guys want to keep playing pool here, you guys need to buy something. $3 isn't that big of a deal." None of the other bartenders have treated us this way, but I think he's tip hungry because one of the times he was drunk, he had let us know, "if you guys are going to continue to play pool, the least you can do is tip me." The thing is that my family always buys drinks when we are thirsty, but we aren't going to buy a drink if we don't want one or aren't going to drink it. We should feel free to buy as many drinks or as little drinks as we want considering we are there almost everyday of the week and only live...
Read more12-29-24 DO NOT PAY CASH !!! Total rip off from all staff. Web site says $3 well drinks... Asked the guy bartender price for happy hour drinks. $4. OK web site was out of date. Ordered a double and gave a $20. Got back $9. I said," ... this was not the right change." He gave me back another $.50. Bartender claimed it was "tax". So that is charging $10.50 for two drinks, or $5.25 per drink... Tax in Broomfield is 8.15%. Tax for $8 ($4 per drink) is $.65. I told the bartender this was still not correct. From my $20 - $8.65 = $11.35 in change. He gave me another $1 (my total change now was $9.50 + $1 =$10.50) So still short of $1.35. The male bartend said that he had no change and the Boss said they would not make change that was under $.50. The prices were all rounded up...
SO about ready to leave, and there was a shift change. Thought I would the female bar tender... same thing, prices were rounded up to the next dollar. Same excuse. It use to be there was a discount with cash not so... Both bartenders need to learn to not abuse their clients...
