This place is truly a local gem. The food and drinks are alright, honestly theres nothing special when it comes to that. However, it's El Hueso's atmosphere that has me, and so many other people coming back. During the day, it's a quiet location to get some tea, relax for a bit, listen to some music and read a good book. At night, there's always live music playing. There's two house bands, La Mission and Los Dabs. Both consist of amazing musicians, and always keep the crowd entertained. Then there's always a handful of local artists that play as well. Combine the good music with their BYOB policy, and you have a great atmosphere. They also sell a good assortment of interesting beers. I highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone; especially if you're looking for something else to do in Brownsville on a Friday night other than all the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhen we walked in to Hueso de Fraile this evening, we were pleasantly surprised at how many people of all ages were in attendance. The ode to Frida Kahlo by the Literature Circle from Brownsville was refreshing, and offered insight to Frida Kahlo's life with Diego Rivera. What a wonderful way to introduce literature to any age. The coffee was delicious, and reasonably priced. I particularly like that it is a very interesting place, with art pieces, jewelry, and other interesting objects spread out throughout the coffee shop. The music was great, and we were treated very well by the family who runs this establishment. I recommend that you visit, you will not be...

The crowd were mostly young professionals, Hispanics made majority. There were some people from Matamoros, but, what surprised me the most, there were like 6 or 8 anglo Americans listening to live music, drinking a glass of wine, eating a salad. I hope I can go back soon. Next time I will try to eat something so I can have an opinion about their food. Aside from the Palm lounge, El HUESO DEL FRAILE were the only 2 places open at night! they were...
