Read moreAbsolutely wonderful experience! We decided to explore Brownsville on a Sunday afternoon. After pulling off into TX Southmost College to try to find a place to eat 😅, my husband saw there was a steakhouse nearby. We arrived right after they opened. We didn't have reservations (& honestly, we were probably severely underdressed), but the hostess warmly greeted & seated us. Our server was FANTASTIC! He explained to us the various items on the menu, chef Rafael Villalpando's vision & talent, and gave us suggestions on what to order. We enjoyed fresh tostadas & house salsas while looking over the menu. Our server explained the significance of the name "Chilmoli" and prepared a fresh salsa at our table, while explaining the ingredients and how they compliment one another. I ordered Al Pastor Half-chicken, which takes about an hour to cook (to retain flavor and moisture). Contrary to other reviews, we took no issue with that & it was 1000% worth the wait! While waiting, we enjoyed delicious guacamole with chicharrones (& a fabulous presentation!) & the hostess brought me one of their new drinks by Fer García...the Xipe Tótec 🤤. Not only was the drink amazing, the story behind it is unforgettable. Our meals came out perfect! My son ordered the Fajita Waygu Matamoros & my husband ordered the Prime Ribeye & Poblano Mac & Cheese. Everything was delicious & so filling! Our server was attentive and very knowledgeable. This culinary journey was absolutely the best dining experience I have ever...
Read moreme and my family locals to brownsville we find this place through tik tok, food seems very appealing at least looks wise we go get seated pretty quick it was rather empty we order food i will admit it took a little while to come out nothing to crazy tho server was friendly enough kind of serious but i understand that right? sometimes people just don’t have the energy to be very energetic. as me and my family finish eating we pay leave a tip of 10 dollars. after doing so the manager came up to us to ask why we left such a tip? and kept asking if he did anything wrong we said no yet he kept asking and seeming like he wanted more money from us? we understand some people make a living off tips but the service wasn’t really to die for he didn’t do anything wrong but not really anything extraordinary either tips such as 50 dollars are for those who go above and beyond which we didn’t feel done. i would also like to remind you tips are OPTIONAL and not EVERYONE can just afford to leave a 50 dollar tip as low as a tip may be you should always be grateful instead of complaining to the manager and making him talk to us like we are a ton of mis behaving kids. the food wasn’t even that great for a 50 dollar tip either it was good but i have definitely had better and for cheaper this makes it feel like a tourist destination simply for them to waste money. overall the manager giving us a “talking to” like that was unprofessional unpleasant and unnecessary hope this doesn’t happen to anyone...
