I've been in much better pubs with better food and better drinks and better deals, and the main crowd here consists of 45+ year olds (including the badass shipbuilder types and aging rockers) but this place is so many things I want in a bar. The employees are totally down to Earth, so it just seems like they're friends pouring you a drink rather than bartenders earning a paycheck. I like to credit this to the New England charm, which, as a Southerner, I believe far surpasses our own hospitality. This place is also in the same building as the Amtrak station, so it's real convenient to stop by for a few drinks while waiting for the train to Boston. They occasionally have some of the local guitar-wielding hippies play music and tell stories at night, giving the bar an intimate and cozy feel. And probably most important of all, their tap selection is quite impressive, featuring the best of Maine, the rest of New England, and beyond. I can't recommend this place to young 20-somethings looking for the new, exclusive bar experience or a hookup, but coming here feels like coming home. I can't wait to come back. Read moreByrnes offers a charmingly decorated setting that perfectly complements its hearty and flavorful fare. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it an ideal spot for those seeking a taste of traditional Irish cuisine with a local twist. The food and drinks are consistently good, with standouts like the rich and comforting Irish coffee, which I absolutely love.
Among the menu's highlights are the Leprechaun Balls, Irish Quesadillas, traditional Bangers & Mash, and Shepherd's Pie, all of which deliver on taste and authenticity. The Bread and Butter Pudding is another must-try, offering a delightful finish to any meal. The only slight disappointment was the pretzels, which were unfortunately too salty. However, the generally nice and attentive staff more than make up for this small misstep, ensuring a pleasant dining experience.

Read moreCold Smithwicks and excellent pub food. this posted 3 weeks ago, went in tonight 2/27/19 during Red Sox trivia, met cool old Veteran named Bill, bought him a beer and got overcharged for 2 Smithwicks. Bartender's explanation was my wife ordered 2 beers extra. If your into getting robbed as a hobby, Cheers N go for it. She was sitting next to me the whole time, that didn't happen! I don't want confrontation so I left. Had great conversation with a great elder Veteran, however I WILL NEVER FREQUENT YOU PUB AGAIN. Great Job Bartender Lassie, I hope your $ 10 overcharge and 6 buck tip was worth the explanation...
