Billy's Grille & Bar - Bryan — Restaurant in Bryan

We arrived at around 730 on a Sunday evening. Upon arriving at the host station I was a little uncertain on what to do, whether it was self seat or should I wait for someone to seat me. I will note that several employees all came out of the kitchen at about the same time before one came up to seat us. I ordered the chicken qusadilla for an app and got the Philly cheesesteak sandwhich for my entree. My friend got the coconut shrimp. None of the food was bad by any means but it was nothing that blew us away either. The coconut shrimp was more heat than anything. The server we had was nice enough however the service was definitely slow considering there were at least 10 employees working tonight. I will add that the place was far away from being busy and only about 8 tables were there including us through the entire time we were there which was about an hour. We were seated directly in front of the bar and the 2-3 people that were behind the bar most of the time we were there could have easily come over to refill drinks but they were focusing almost all of their attention on a young blond girl at the bar. We ordered some shakes for desert but were not offered a dessert menu and did not even notice the amazing looking cookies or brownies until after we paid that were by the ice cream cooler. I think an actual section on the menu for dessert would be great. The table also was sticky when we sat down and considering the amount of workers present with the small amount of tables, the whole place should have been pretty spotless. Let me start by saying our service was great. Our server was attentive and very pleasant. And that’s where my good experience ended. We got fried calamari and it didn’t have a singular seasoning on it. Not even salt. The batter was entirely void of flavor. Then to the entrees. We got a Cobb salad which was okay for the most part, the chicken was under seasoned. The chicken Cesar salad was a small portion for the price. The grilled chicken was entirely void of seasoning. Not even salt and pepper and it was extremely dry and overcooked. The chicken and waffles seemed promising, the chicken was juicy and cooked very well but it too had no seasoning at all. The waffle was extremely dense and required copious amounts of syrup to be moist enough to consume. The side of Mac n cheese was not fresh, it had little to no actual cheese on it, there was no seasoning on it it was cold and stuck together in a solid layer. The chicken bacon ranch wrap was alright. The fries were cooked well but again, no seasoning. To top it off the restroom was out of order, and when I asked for a nutritional facts sheet they said they didn’t have one. Both things are against industry operation standards. As we prepared to leave a table of 7 that had been seated for 15 or more mins got up and left because they had still not even been acknowledged for service. Update: lost 1 star due to bad service the last 2 times we've been here outside of weekday lunch hours. The waitstaff sits around chatting when the owner is not here. Last 2 times, we've had to seat ourselves, grab our own menus and utensils. Last time we waited 15 minutes before someone came to get our drink order. She came back with the wrong drinks. Then when she brought out my food, I asked her for tartar sauce for my fish and chips, and she told me they were out. Why wouldn't she tell me that before I order? The biggest issue here is the apathy amongst the waitstaff.

Been here for lunch a couple times now, service has been hit or miss. It's been clean the times I've been here for lunch during weekdays. The food has been consistantly good. I've had their fish & chips (recommended), their burger (it's decent), chicken fried steak (recommended), and their cheese sticks (decent). The fish & chips are crunchy and not greasy, their fries are really good too, also not greasy. I particularly appreciated the sourdough bun on their burgers, very soft and flavorful. The patty was decently seasoned too. The chicken fried steak was very juicy and flavorful, and their cheesesticks were alright. They seem to put all their seasonings and flavor in their marinara sauce because the cheese stick alone is flavorless. The tea is good. Will continue...
