My 3 month old BABY was knocked to the floor off a high chair accidentally by the manager. This was NOT the issue, my family and myself handled it extremely well. Issue: They brought our family bill complete except for my meal was discounted $5 from our entire bill. I do not go looking for handouts, however my BABY hit the floor HARD! Thank God he was buckled in and I had not been feeding him! I had to walk outside after checking on him and left him with my husband, because I started hyperventilating. After I came back in, the food had arrived but I couldn’t eat after being so terrified. When the manager came to apologize, we had a good apology session on both sides with me apologizing for me being traumatized from him being vulnerable in the hospital and didn’t mean to upset him for walking out of the restaurant. After my family finished eating, I got a to-go box and our check. I told the manager “I’m sorry I do not want you to feel bad but I’m a little offended. He said I’m sorry I’m only allowed to comp $5. I asked “you mean the owners, because that’s who is above you right?” He said “yes and they are here”. I handed the bill holder and said “look I’ll pay, our card is in it but this is extremely offensive.” He was very apologetic, we have had him as our waiter multiple times and he has always been extremely kind. “I told him look it’s not about what happened but I have had meals comped because the food was wrong”. He said “I understand but it’s all I’m allowed to do”. The manager seemed extremely genuine and still very shaken by what he did. I told him, “ok, well our card is in there so we will pay if we need to”. He then charged our meal, and when he brought receipt back I said “I promise this is not about what happened, but if the owners’ care that much about one bill then I am impressed by their determination. I used to recommend this place all the time, but I’m letting you know I will never do that again nor will I ever be back and I am sorry you have to work for them.” I do feel bad for him he has always been very good and just accidentally knocked over the most important thing in my life that took me 9 years to conceive and spent two weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit after birth. He is now the happiest 3 month old you would ever see even though he has underdeveloped lungs and a hole in his heart. I pray he doesn’t wake up with whip lash or worse.
I can’t believe the owners did not come out and alleviate the pressure on the poor manager.
With people this determined to focus only on money will probably try to get this removed, but I promise I am ten-fold more determined when faced with someone with compromised integrity. This will be reposted across the internet as far as I can stretch it and will set up a monthly schedule to make sure that this gets to circulate as much as possible.
Good luck to you Cilantro’s owners, to your never ending rat race. Master earning the dollar, because you are going to need a better marketing strategy.
I also hope that poor manager finds a better place to be, he would be...
Read moreI was extremely hyped for this place as it was advertised on KBTX on a morning special, it looked extremely great! However I was disappointed and had regrets bringing family here.
Atmosphere was great and it was super clean, that’s about the best it gets here.
Chips seemed cold as if they were just pulled out of a bag, not a very good store bought brand either as they were very bland and that definitely follows all the other dishes, all were very bland.
We ordered Queso, Chicken Fajitas & Pork Carnitas.
The Queso surprisingly came with homemade fried flour tortillas as a fresh chip alternative to the ones that they bring complimentary to the table. Unfortunately they seemed as if they stayed in the oil to long as they were a tad bit soggy and soaked up a good amount of oil, the queso itself was good, not excellent but not horrible.
The Chicken Fajitas were juicy and seemed to have an average flavor, however they were saturated with onions which ultimately over powered the dish.
The Pork Carnitas was hard to eat, you either had really fatty pieces or pieces extremely dry, flavor was good but as mentioned above it was either to dry or to greasy/fat. The Presentation of the Carnitas was very nice as the colors of the food combinations looked good and exotic, especially the way they took the time out to properly layer the Pico and stage the plate.
The rice and beans also were bland, the rice had a strong flavor of peas yet no peas were found in the rice.. beans were good, no complaints there.
The guacamole was also very bland, had no flavor whatsoever.
I was going to give this restaurant a three star rating however after receiving the service I received it ended up losing a star, cups were left empty, chips were never refilled and it took an extremely long time to get extra tortillas as we were only given (4) for the food we ordered.
The tortillas were the highlight of the whole place as both the corn and flour tortillas were homemade and excellent, the corn tortillas were rather thick but was very good.
I know this all sounds extremely negative and I know we only tried one appetizer and two dishes however with the food we received and the service, we will not be coming back.
I had some Awesome hopes for this place however it was a let down.
If you are looking for some great Mexican food in town you can’t go wrong with Lupe Tortilla which sounds pricy but you would actually be walking away with the same bill for a dinner for two. It was roughly $35 with tip. Or if you’re willing to travel to get some Amazing Mexican food head to Brenham for...
Read moreOutstanding food, nice folks but ho hum, absent-minded service. Parking is okay, there there are spaces at nearby businesses that are available after they close. Some parking on the street in front of the business, all easy to get to and right on the street. The building looks like it must have been there since the first half of the 20th century. I wonder what it's history is? My wife and I were in town on an errand and we're looking for some place to eat when we realized it was game day. That makes dining out a purely miserable experience; wait times are ridiculous! Fortunately we googled Mexican restaurants in the vicinity and this place got good ratings so we took a chance. Far enough off the beaten path not to be swamped with post-game patronage, early enough that we got there before the rush of locals. We found a seat immediately and a waitress came by after 4 or 5 minutes. The dining area is well populated with tables but not crowded. The art on the walls was something my wife recognized, I don't know enough about art to describe it but it wasn't unpleasant. We had examined the menu while we were traveling and had a fair idea of what we wanted. The waitress managed to bring the chips and dip, but the drinks sat at the bar until I got up and went and asked for them. We had to ask for more chips from a busboy while we were waiting for our order; there were only a couple of other parties so it's not like the week staff was overburdened. Eventually the water came also. When the steak and chicken fixings and the tortillas came the food was top-notch, first class! The tortillas are made on site I think and are likely cooked on the grill. I don't see why they only give to at a time though. When we got the check the price was reasonable and we were satisfied. Next time we're in town this will be high on our list of options, right up there with Sodalak's. This will probably be our go to place if it's...
