Like most reviews, the only saving grace is the pizza rolls. Recently I had my lowest experience to date. I called in my order for a large BBQ chicken pizza with onions and bacon with a side Caesar salad for take out. When I arrived they had no order for my name or phone number. Maybe I called the wrong store? Well, no. I checked the number and I called the correct location. It's Tuesday and they are slammed, I'll give them a pass. I order my pizza and side salad to go and a drink while I wait. The young lady behind me also had a missing order. This should throw up a red flag, but the cashier carries on as if no mistake had been made. Usually this is when the cashier relays the info to the manager on duty who will apologize and gives out a free dessert or drink with next order to keep the customer happy. While waiting I observed another customer come in and walk to the counter, where two employees are talking (woman in her late 30's or 40's and a young man in his twenties). After some time passes the customer has to interject and ask "perhaps you can discuss this after you've helped me?" Sad this has to be said to get service while standing in front of two employees. After thirty minutes I go back to the counter to see why my pizza has not been finished. The young man makes eye contact and casually walks the line and grabs my pizza that had clearly been under the heat lamp for about 15 minutes. Is it now the customer's duty to periodically check to see if their food is made? I ask "may I please get the small Caesar salad I ordered?" He grabs an empty to go container and directs me to the salad bar. This is where I find what my family describes as lettuce bones. You know, the bottom of the head of lettuce that you cut off and discard. Everything browned and warm to the touch. If you want delicious pizza rolls, order from a College Station location or try out Gumby's. This location has either inept trainers, such poor working conditions and pay that employees leave, or a management staff that does not have a drive to maintain the quality that has been associated with Double Dave's for so many years. Unfortunately my business and recommendation to dine at this...
Read moreI recently visited Double Dave’s Pizza Works and had a mixed experience. I brought a pizza home, and while I enjoyed the crispy pepperoni, the overall experience fell a bit short. The pizza was cold by the time I got home, and the crust was chewy. The toppings were a little skimpy for my taste, but the daily specials and variety of specialty pizzas could make it worth trying again.
Inside, you’ll find a casual setup where you order at the counter—no table service here. They do offer Parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes, but you have to look for them yourself. The Wednesday night buffet looks intriguing, and I may give it a try next time, as long as the price is reasonable.
One thing I noticed was the canned and bottled beer selection, though I couldn’t tell if wine was available. The pepperoni and cheese rolls pictured online look great, and I bet they’d be amazing with some melted garlic butter!
The location is convenient, situated at a busy intersection. However, the staff could use a little more warmth—the first thing I heard was “for here or to go?” A simple hello or an introduction to the specials would’ve been a nice touch.
I’ll definitely come back, but next time I’ll eat in to enjoy the pizza...
Read moreThe only saving grace this place has is their pizza rolls. They are delicious. But, during any of their buffet hours, this restaurant becomes a perfectly sad example of how to lose customers. I would not put full blame on the workers since I always see them running back and forth cooking and delivering and taking orders. Instead, I place it on management and owners. Management for training their employees improperly and owners for not hiring enough of them. Here's what I have found the last few times we have been there. The salad bar is a mess. Empty containers, bits and pieces of stuff everywhere, rotting veggies at the bottom of the few containers that are not empty. Four or five empty pizza platters. Their signature dish, pizza rolls, MIA, with a waiting line at the counter looking awkwardly at the cooks on the other side of the wall. Ice machine, empty. Tea and coffee section all sticky with used napkins thrown about. You ask why go there at all? Again, the pizza rolls. They are good!!! The few instances that I am able to spare the time, I prefer to go to the College station location. They are always on point. This one.... Not so much. Oh.... and don't go to the restroom. You have...
