My party of 5 walked in a couple minutes after 1pm and when we sat down we were immediately berated with "Are you ready to order?" about 6 times in 5 minutes. We understood that they do close at 2pm, but being rushed and rushed to pick something from a menu we had never seen before was an extremely stressful experience.

Food arrived pretty quickly which was nice. My friend who ordered the chicken salad salad asked for no peppers, but it came with them anyway. My friend ended up picking the peppers out of her salad, and she said it was pretty bland. My friends who ordered omelettes really enjoyed their food and would come back again. Aaron described the french toast as acceptable: a little bit overcooked, one bite tasted off but acceptable. The eggs benedict was solid, I quite liked the hollandaise sauce. The poached eggs themselves were a tad overcooked but acceptable. My homefries were unevenly cooked, which made me a little sad.

The waitress never returned to the table after dropping off food so we didn't have the opportunity to give feedback on the food and/or send it back. The last time we saw her she dropped off what we assumed was the check, but it was one of the most confusing pieces of paper we'd ever read. It was most likely the greasy paper the waitress wrote on to take our order? The numbers weren't related to the actual price of the entire meal. We were fine paying for the food we got, but it would be nice to see the total ahead of time. Didn't expect to use calculators in the car to see if we were ripped off or not when we went out to breakfast...

Arrived a hour or so before closing, one would think that should have been plenty of time to order and get through a meal without it sticking in my throat or feeling like I was holding up shutting down the restaurant right? Nope, we were extremely rushed to give the waitress our order, they were out of what I originally asked for so naturally, I asked for a bit more time to decide. She came back 30 seconds later asking if I had decided yet. Ended up ordering a basic breakfast of eggs, bacon, toast. Nothing notable about any of it. Not once did she come to the table to ask if everything was okay or if we needed anything additional. The dining room still had patrons eating as the staff were gathered around, putting chairs on tables, counting their tips and closing out the register all the while looking over to see how close we were to finishing our meal so they could leave exactly at 2pm. Never have I felt more rushed to get through a meal or made to feel so unwelcome. It was as if they were hovering waiting for us to leave so they could lock the doors behind us. Just because a store’s hours reflect 2pm doesn’t mean you treat the customers already seated like that. It means you don’t let any new customers in at 2pm. Very unwelcoming atmosphere. You...

My favorite place to eat breakfast, hands down. Coffee is served in these hodgepodge of differing cups, all large sizes. The place is always busy, this is how you know its good. The interior is basically an old house, this is not a large place and you will be kind of close to the folks sitting next to you. I find the service to be great. Sure, the waitresses are super busy, but I have never been neglected. I sit at the counter and do tables, never had a bad experience. If you are stuck up, or needy, you may have a problem. They simply don't have time for idle chit chat.

The food is the real star here. Their specials are unique and always great. They use local and fresh ingredients when possible. As an example, when the local farms are harvesting peaches, you get pancakes with peaches inside them, waffles, etc. My favorite two items are the Cornmeal pancakes, and the Oatmeal Raisin w/walnut pancakes. They are simply the best. My kids love the omelette specials, as often they feature unique types of cheeses. I have been to this place probably 30 times, only for breakfast. One day I will have lunch here and amend my review. You can't go wrong...

My first visit to Cross Keys Diner did not disappoint. Arriving around 10am on a chilly Friday morning, the place was busy and, as I was solo, I was happy to take a seat at the counter. I ordered one of the daily specials, the Ed Asner Omelet. What arrived in front of me was a plate heaped with food. The omelet was heaped inside with sweet Italian sausage, provolone, and sundried tomatoes...a delightful combination and incredibly delicious. I am not one to leave food on my plate, but the portion was so generous I couldn't finish it. The home fries had a few burnt bits. Did I care? No, I did not. Real rye toast on the side, with the perfect tangy sourness and a great chew. The coffee! Old school diner coffee from the Bunn-O-Matic with free refills. The perfect accompaniment to eggs, potatoes and toast. The hard-working staff was friendly and responsive, taking the time to smile even though it was peak serving time. I appreciate that someone (the chef? the owner? are they the same?) is having fun and being creative with the ingredients and naming of the daily specials. This place is a gem and one of a kind. I will certainly be back.

Absolutely the best breakfast around! It’s an old school spot - nothing fancy, so leave your pretentious expectations at home. What you’ll find here is a great breakfast or lunch (for me it’s usually breakfast). The food’s great, the staff is fun and hard working, the restaurant is always clean and usually very busy. We go early and grab a spot at the counter. Service is quick. It tends to attract a friendly crowd. And if you sit and listen, you’ll hear lots of conversation and laughter. Scott and Krista are the owners, and you will usually find them hard at work when you visit. You can tell they treat their staff well by the way they interact with each and every employee. Truly good people. All the omelets are fantastic, with a generous amount of filling. If you go on a Sunday, try the “hash”. It’s my favorite, and changes every week. But it’s usually only available Sunday mornings. If you miss the hash, then definitely try the Eggs Benedict. It’s the real deal, and the best Hollandaise Sauce anywhere. If you go for lunch, the patty melt is great. So are the soups. But like I said, for me it’s usually breakfast. Enjoy!

Best local gem around! Here’s the deal: it’s one thing to make great food and serve incredible breakfasts/lunches… but it’s another thing entirely to serve that same TOP NOTCH meal week after week, without fail, consistently, and in a ridiculously friendly manner. I may be a creature of habit and order the Eggs Benedict on most visits, but it remains one of the greatest Benedicts I’ve ever had. (And I always get a Benedict if offered when I travel, so I feel like I’m a bit of a connoisseur in this regard) Anyway, this artfully poached egg, delicious hollandaise, and thick grilled Canadian bacon rests atop a proper toasted English muffin from the proper brand… perfectly cooked and seasoned potatoes - all of this EVERY SINGLE WEEK. Cross Keys Diner never has a “bad day” as far as I’m concerned. The pic here is from this morning - but if I post a pic from previous visits, you’d see exactly the same thing - nothing less than perfection. Don’t miss this fabulous place if you find yourself anywhere near Doylestown.
