The food: Hard to give a star rating, because my experience here was both good and bad. I ordered a stir fry dish, and it was accompanied by a large portion of steamed rice. The brown sauce was delicious, and the dish was spicy, but just the right amount. My only complaint with my dish was the beef seemed dry; probably frozen. However, my husband ordered a dish called “Kua Gai”, and I’ve never been to Thailand before, so I can’t be 100% sure if it was supposed to taste this way, but it was sour to the point that when I tried it bevause he was just picking at his plate, it literally made me gag and I had to force myself to swallow it. I know Thai dishes incorporate a lot of lime/acid into the dish, but this tasted sour as if it had been reheated in a microwave, or had been expired. The bean sprout was overwhelmingly watery, and I’m sure that’s what had the off-putting taste. He is a naturally shy person, but I spoke up and asked for a different dish; Pad Thai. This dish was much better for him, and he was able to eat most of it.
The staff: Warm and friendly in a standard way. We were not seated at a table but rather pointed towards one that would fit our party of 3. We were sat next to the “all you can eat salad and soup”, which was just a salad mix with Ranch or Italian Dressing and a soup that also tasted at least a day old. It would have been okay, except one member of my party was sat right next to the soup which was sitting on a stool right behind him diagonally, so he had to be careful not to bump into it or get into people’s way when they were trying to serve themselves. What surprised me most was 4-5 members of the staff sitting down to eat Lunch in the very small dining room around 1:30, even though the restaurant closes at 3 and reopens at 5 on weekdays. Seems like they could take those 2 hours to eat lunch, but that’s just my opinion. We did receive 2 drink refills in our hour and a half stay here, but only for water. I’m not sure if a coke refill was extra, but a can of coke was $1.99, so it seems like I should have gotten at least 1 refill. The “manager” I’m assuming also came to ask my husband “you don’t like this either???” Even though he had obviously eaten a good bit of the Pad thai that he ordered instead.
Experience overall/final recommendation: if you live in this area and are looking for a Thai restaurant that can do the staples well (ie. Pad Thai, crab Rangoon’s, etc.), and are willing to grab take out, then I would recommend you try this place. If you are looking for a “hole in the wall” where “everything on the menu is amazing!” Then be prepared to be disappointed. I’m leaning more towards a 3/5 star because the service was decent, and the food was decent (aside from the one dish we sent back), and this restaurant is obviously family owned so I don’t want to say that the business is terrible when it isn’t as bad as some others that I’ve seen. We are not from buda, so we most likely will not drive out to this location again to try it, but if we are ever in the Austin- Sunset Valley area we might try their sister location of...
Read moreI'm completely disappointed and would never come here again. I feel discriminated against, and as if my money got stolen. I've been to places with sub-par service but outrageously good food and vice-versa, and either one makes up for the other, so I usually don't leave reviews. This time both were bad. Also, I don't want to make the assumption that there was any racist feelings on the way I got treated, but I felt very discriminated against, since I was the only non white or asian person there.
When I entered I was not greeted, just asked wether I was there to pick up or order, then I got asked if I wanted to eat there or to go. I was told to sit anywhere and wasn't even given a menu, I had to get it myself. I ended up ordering right then and there. I got Beef Pad Thai with a side of Pork. During all of this I'm the only customer present.
Fast forward some time and two white guys enter and they're immediately greeted and taken to their seats, brought utensils, water and menu. Completely different from what I experienced, since it took a while for my utensils to come and got asked what I wanted to drink after them, even though I've ordered before they even got here. Some time later a couple comes in and once again, they're treated as costumers in a restaurant should be treated.
Shortly after I get my food and I notice it barely has any meat and has a strong smell. Like old heated grease or old cooked meat. I assume it came from the pork. The taste was a little too sweet and kinda heavy on the taste department, but still good nonetheless.
During this time I see how the other customers are constantly engaged and asked if they need something else, meanwhile I'm sitting, done with my plate waiting for the waitress to even acknowledge my existence. I didn't even get a water refill, meanwhile the couple, who sat in front of me, got theirs refilled.
Finally the waitress comes to my table bringing the bill, not even asking if I wanted to order something else. After she left I checked the menu again, and disappointed, I paid. Then I waited for her to come get the bill and once again she didn't come. So I got up and brought it to her and left.
I apologize for my English if what I wrote isn't clear, it is my 2nd language. Also, I'll be generous and say that the waitress was still young, probably around my age, so she may have gotten distracted attending phone calls or the other customers, who seemed to...
Read moreOkay, so this was my third time at this place, the first time I order a chicken pad cee ew, which was decent. The second time I ordered a tofu fried rice, which was pretty good. The third time I came I brought a friend with me thinking he may like this place. We ordered eggrolls which were amazing and both of us went for the beef pad thai. The lovely waitress brought his meal first and my coworker expressed "I'm not eating this $#@^ , it smells like a wet animal" I thought he was over exaggerating but when the waitress brought mine to the table I noticed the same smell. I decided to dress my dish however with the provided nuts, cilantro and lime but when I took the first bite it tasted just as it smelled but a bit worse due to the mental picture already stored (wet animal). We left and the waitress asked what was wrong with the food? My coworker again said "we're not eating it, it smells like wet animal", I guess she took offense to it and only charged us for the egg rolls. Won't be going to this place again, neither would I recommend...
