I came to the restaurant at 9:25 pm. I waited at the podium and when I saw an employee walk towards me I asked if I could place a to-go order. She told me they were closed. I said " The sign over the door reads (you close at) 10 pm". She replied "Yeah. We weren't busy so we decided to close at 9:30". I looked at my watch and said "That's fine. It's actually 9:25". This is the part of the story where things start to go down hill. Rather than acknowledge that I had arrived within her previously stated (and totally arbitrary) cut-off she decided to double down and say; "Yeah. We closed like 10 minutes ago". Another employee then joined her and parroted her comments. It's at this time I choose to leave (as opposed to smacking their heads together as I was rather violently fantasizing). For the record, I don't believe this experience (or any like it) should be resolved with violence. I bring it up because the actions of these employees was so substandard in regards to basic customer service that it made me feel ashamed to be a FELLOW FOOD SERVER. As a food server I know exactly what it's like when business dies for the night and you just want to go home (it's not like you're making money then anyways). I also understand a business's decision to close early to reduce labor cost. What I don't understand is how PEOPLE WHO DO THIS WORK FOR A LIVING think the best way to handle the situation was to throw out a closing time they chose, not bother to confirm that time has arrived and then walk it back when they learned it hadn't. Stupid and negligent. A combo platter! No thanks. Also a no thanks: I was planning on eating Thanksgiving dinner here because I didn't feel like time and expense of cooking a holiday meal. I will drive the 40 miles to Kingman and eat at Cracker Barrel before spending my hard earned money...
Read moreLet me start by saying that I am normally a FAN of Black Bear Diner, and appreciate the consistent high quality of both food and service, but our first visit to the BHC location was sorely disappointing. It started with our drinks... My coffee was barely lukewarm and I wasn't even asked if I wanted cream with it, and my wife's sweet tea tasted as if it had spoiled. I asked our server when she took our order for cream and more coffee, but eventually had to flag down the manager for cremer, and NEVER got my coffee refilled. I didn't get my dinner salad until AFTER we asked for the check, and my wife and I were served our meals almost 10 minutes before our kids got their pancakes (the manager DID explain that the delay was a quality control issue, but have you ever tried to eat in front of hungry 5 and 6 year olds?), and my order was wrong (green beans when I had requested steamed broccoli and carrots). My wife's chicken on her cobb salad was overcooked and dry (she said it tasted like it was 2 days old). My broccoli tasted like potatoes, my potatoes tasted like carrots, and my carrots didn't taste like anything at all. Our server never asked about our meal after we were served (in fact, we didn't really see her at our table until we asked for our check), so we didn't get a chance to complain. She seemed VERY flustered and overwhelmed out on the floor, but had plenty of time for chitchat every time she went behind the counter. In all, it was, as I said, a sorely disappointing experience. If, like me, you're a FAN of Black Bear Diner and find yourself in Bullhead City, I recommend you drive over the hill to Kingman, whose location truly lives up to the brand. It's only about a half hour away, and worth the drive for the difference in food...
Read moreI am from Kingman and I love black bear diner so it sucks I have to give a poor rating to bullhead. Went to bullhead on Monday and decided to go to black bear after a very long day. I was starving and so excited to eat. We were greeted by a very nice gentleman who sat us down and waited for our waitress. It took her about 10 minutes to even come get our drinks. Finally got our drinks and the waitress comes over and tells us that she has to go do a birthday song and she will be back to take our order. 20 minutes later we finally got to order. At this point I realized it’s no big deal I am just hangry and she’s doing her best. We get our order in and as we are waiting for our food I noticed there was crusted food on my fork. I politely told the waitress that there was food on the fork and she rudely took the silverware from me and proceeded to say “that’s when you just do this” and wipes it on her apron. My partner gave her a dirty look and I calmly said “that’s just disgusting” with an awkward laugh even if I was at home I would rewash the fork. One it was extremely rude and two it’s nasty. I don’t want to eat off of a fork that has old crusty food on it. I was already irritated by the long wait and then the rudeness of this waitress was beyond me. Anyways I ordered the hamburger salad and it was so good! Kudos to the chef. However half way through eating it I chomped down on something very hard that gave me a tooth ache. After that I called it a disaster of a night and payed and left. Please pay attention to details and stop being rude to your customers when they are nothing but polite to you even under the...
