I visited St. Augustine to get out and about, and stumbled upon this gem! I enjoyed every aspect of this business, and encourage you to visit them if you are ever in St. Augustine.
Here's what I loved:
There is a fan that blows above the door when the door opens, which prevents flying insects from making their way into the restaurant... this may seem like a trivial detail, but it really does work, and all restaurants should have this.
This restaurant is clean. All places of business are required to take any and all steps to create and maintain a clean space; but, this level of clean is only achieved by a restaurant who has been maintaining cleanliness for a while. They take pride in their appearance, and they are also following CDC guidelines (employees were wearing a mask, and handling food properly).
They have fish and seafood on their menu, and you'd never know it because the place does not smell like a fish market! I expect to smell fish cooking, but the aromas of the delish food being prepared was all that I smelled.
The menu is properly priced and offers a meal for everyone. The portions are generous, and the sides are diverse. They deliver your meal in a small bag (like a bagged lunch), sandwiches are, wrapped, sides are wrapped separately. This may be because of the way things are with the coronavirus, but what I liked about this is that my hot food stayed hot, and my sides did not interfere with my sandwich. And P.S., their famous fish sandwich really is incredible, cooked perfectly, and full of white fish (full).
The view is excellent, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable about what they offer, and I didn't feel rushed as I took my time to really look at the menu (it is a lovely menu). Nothing that would give me anything short of an excellent experience was too much to ask! For example, I asked for a side of their tartar sauce, and was met with a friendly face, a team who worked together, and a small ramekin (no one needs a ton of this stuff) of their delicious tartar sauce.
If you are in St. Augustine, and wish to grab a meal that is very satisfying, priced well, and served in a space that makes you feel comfortable, this is your place! We will visit this place...
Read moreWe are not from this area & actually wanted to try the restaurant across the street but they don’t open on Mondays. We noticed there was a line waiting to order across the street so we decided to investigate. The line seemed to move quickly. The food was freshly made and piping hot. My husband ordered the fish sandwich and said it was huge! He also said he would have liked a bigger portion of coleslaw but the coleslaw was tasty. I only ate a piece of the fish out of his sandwich of course. The fish was thinner than I am used too but was still very tasty. The hush puppies were very small & I would definitely not consider 3 of them the equivalent of a side. I ordered the footlong combo with chilli on the side. It comes with 2 sides so I ordered fries and hush puppies. My fries were fresh hot and the portion was generous. Although the fries were little bit salty, they were freshly cooked so I considered that win. I would not recommend the hush puppies at all. Overall the food was fresh & pretty good for the price. Even though there’s only outside dining I was content because the weather was a sunny balmy 84 degrees. There was a line of 8-10 people when I left around 3pm so food seems quite popular. Overall I was happy we decided to try this restaurant. I would definitely eat there again minus those tiny hush puppies. The menu price online is not the correct price however. The staff were very helpful and...
Read moreWe went here because I was told they have the best fish sandwiches. I'm not a big fish fan but the wife is. The place is the prime example of a greasy spoon but with out door seating only. Order at the window, pick up at other window and have a seat on picnic bench. Not a problem. I Order the double bacon burger with fried mushrooms and she the aforementioned fish sandwich and fries. She ate the fries and a third of the fish sandwich and then chucked it. Too dry and too fishy was the verdict. My double bacon burger had no bacon. The patties were cooked appropriately but they should rename it to the Soggy Bottom boy. From the window to the picnic table twenty feet away, the bottom bun was mush. I can only imagine the state if I drove home before eating. The sweet tea my wife said wast perfect. Of course, she's from Covington Kentucky so only a mile removed from being a Yankee. My southern palate asked if Bidenomics has created a sugar shortage. Oh, the mushrooms were standard...
