First, before I type my review, a short "history lesson" (not that it has any impact on my review...but, it was definitely interesting to have found out). As I understand it, the current owners are the original owners, who opened the restaurant (under its previous name) in 2003 (or, was it 2006...I'm already 'blanking' on that part), and then sold it in 2013, after which, the 'new' owner kept the original name. Then, somewhat recently, the original owner bought it back, and decided to give the place a new name...kind of a "rebirth". Ok, history lesson over. Onto the food, service, and the rest ..........
Starting with the service, my server was the owner's son. Having driven in from Las Vegas (was 1 of 2 drivers having brought 2 bus-loads of students for Universal Studios Grad Night), I arrived approximately 40 minutes before the end of the lunch service. Even though my arrival was somewhat close to the 'closing' time, he was attentive. I'm not going to say it was the best service...but, it WAS extremely good...absolutely nothing to complain about. Just based on service, alone, I'd definitely return.
As for the atmosphere, I couldn't have asked for anything better. The up-front outdoor seating, though close to the street, was incredibly pleasant. With the plants around the dining area, it gave the appearance of a wonderful "back porch" setting. In Europe, this type of seating is common...but, here in the US, it's rare to find restaurants doing this. To say I was 'pleased' would be an understatement.
Now, for the most important part - the food. For lunch, I had the Penang curry w/ chicken & Thai iced tea, following by sticky rice w/ mango. The last two are common in, pretty much, every Thai restaurant...so, I don't really feel any need to comment on them, other than to say that both were great. As for the Penang curry, it was exceptionally good...so much so, that I decided to order the Khao Soi (with beef) to go, to be my dinner later that evening. That turned out to be a smart decision...as great as the curry was, the Khao Soi was even better.
Definitely, a true gem. When you walk up, and see it, you might second-guess about wanting to eat here...but, do yourself a favor, and give it a try. I promise, you won't be disappointed...and, you'll be wanting to come back before you're even...
Read moreThis was my first time visiting the restaurant. They were relatively busy and I consider that when making my remarks. Seating was rapid, the server was friendly at all times. The beverage arrived quickly. The food order took more than 20 minutes to arrive and it was incorrect. I ordered pork noodle soup with wide noodles and received a mixture of beef and pork soup with meatballs and glass noodles. The food was flavorful but not what I ordered. I did not ask for a correction because I had already been 30 minutes from the moment I sat down until the food arrived. The entire visit took 1 hour because I had to wait for a check as well.
Perhaps they are understaffed and I am willing to revise my review but I generally don't go back for a year if I have this type of experience. That gives management time to fix their service issues. The food here is very good. Order delivery but be prepared to get the wrong food. It may happen. I left a large tip because the man was trying but it was clear that these service issues fall into the lap of the owner not hiring enough people and/or the cook putting the wrong food into the bowl.
If I were the owner, I would shut off some tables and only seat the number of persons that can be served. Otherwise you...

For myself, I ordered the Pad Sew Ew with Tofu and Mango Sticky Rice for dessert. This is the lunch portion for the Pad Sew Ew, so if you have a real big appetite, one lunch portion may not be enough. For me, it's just perfect, leaving enough room for dessert.
The Pad Sew Ew really balanced itself well with its salty savoriness and sweet soy, while the tofu had just enough crispness to add texture, but still soft enough to hold on to the pad sew ew flavor. I can say it's almost effortless finishing the whole bowl.
The Mango Sticky Rice continued the theme of balance, with the rice having just enough coconut glaze that it doesn't over so it with too much sweetness. This also allowed the mango flavor and the rice flavor to be featured more to work in concert with the coconut instead of being too dominated with the coconut glaze like in some other Thai restaurants.
Just love this dessert and My Little Home Thai Kitchen delivers...
