My sister and I were home visiting my parents in Northern Virginia and they suggested ordering food for takeout from Spartans! I haven’t been there since the mid 2000s, but I remember the food being really good. However, both my sister, and I have since become vegan (no animal products), and they didn’t seem to be any options on the menu for us. So, I gave them a call, just to see if they could make something vegan. Honestly, I was just expecting a salad without cheese but I was lucky enough to talk to Athena, who went above and beyond and helping us put together a really great lunch option. She recommended getting a wrap with hummus, grilled vegetables, olive oil, and olives. Mine was on a spinach wrap, and my sisters was on a pita (both pictured - my sister added the Violife vegan cheese). It was delicious! My parents got the chicken souvlaki with coleslaw as aside. We also got an order of grape leaves, which happened to be vegan as is. The food was really good, but the service and support was outstanding. I really appreciated Athena taking the time to help us find something delicious, and we all really enjoyed our lunch. I will definitely be making this a regular takeout spot when I’m home visiting my parents! 🌯
PS, Spartans, if you read this - impossible sausage or beyond meat (inc crumbles) are both really tasty and would be great sub for any beef or lamb! And the Violife Feta is...
Read moreDo not order from here! I ordered the stuffed shells and a piece of cake because I wasn't feeling well, and didn't feel like going out to get something. Huge mistake! I paid $30 for stuffed shells and a piece of cake. The portions are a joke. They are smaller than Milanos' kid's meals. I basically got 3 bites. The food was cold, the noodles were hard, and the ricotta had an awful taste. I got a tiny slither of cake that doesn't even fill up half of the container. It is bitter, gross, and stale. I should've just gone to Taco Bell or anywhere else. I ate there about a month ago. The food was good, but thinking about it, the waitress left a bad taste in my mouth. I am young and Spanish and had on sweatpants. The waitress seemed like she really didn't want to deal with me. Everyone else there were clearly regulars, older, and preppy. I was having an issue with my bank card where when you ran it, it would say declined and I had money. If you ran it again it would go through. The waitress said my card was declined and was definitely annoyed, and it was kind of like she knew this would happen. I tried to explain the situation to her, and she just kept talking over me and was really pushy repeatedly saying you don't have another card. She then sent another waiter to "deal with me". He took my card and ran it again, and it was fine like I told them. I definitely felt really...
Read moreWe recently decided to host a staff appreciation event at my mother's assisted living facility nearby and we needed someone to cater it. My family and I have been going to Spartans ever since we moved to Northern Virginia 8 years ago and we love it. But we have never used them to cater an event so we gave them a try. I went into Spartans with my order for lunch and dinner for about 50 on a Saturday and it was no problem to have it all ready by Monday. Every step of the way, George, who does the catering, was highly communicative answering every question over the weekend and on the day of the event. He also has a nice new van to deliver the food and some nice new wheeled storage units to keep the food warm in the van. In addition to the food, Spartan's provided the food warmers, serving spoons and tongs, paper plates, utensils, napkins, and take away boxes and even a suggested map for how to place the food. George is easy-going and a pleasure to work with, just like the wonderful folks we normally see when we're eating at Spartans. The staff at my mother's facility raved about how wonderful the food was and for many it was their first time eating some of the Greek dishes. Spartans made it just too easy to deliver great food on short notice to our event and we will be keeping them at the front of our minds for the next time we need to...
