El Burrito Loco — Restaurant in Burlington

STAY AWAY!!!!!

Went here for my birthday. Ordered a chicken burrito that came with grilled peppers and onions. The onions in the first bite were burned totally black. I tried to eat more to see if it was just in one spot or part of the burrito.I tried several bites but the entire flavor was of burned, charred food.

When the server came back and asked how everything was I told her the food was not good and showed her the totally charred onions. She said “okay, I will take it off of your bill.” I said thank you and she took the plate away. I sat there eating nothing while my husband finished his meal. Left with a nasty burn after taste in my mouth.

At the register, the same lady who told me she would take the meal off of the bill informed me the cook has said I had to pay 1/2 because I had eaten about 1/2 of the burrito. I told her I only did that hoping it would get better and it did not. I told her it was my birthday and it was not a good experience, and that it was incredulous to me any owner or manager of a business who KNEW he sent that burned food out to a table would take such a position.

She said she would go back to the cook again. I told her I would like to speak to him directly. I was never rude.

Unbelievably, she came back and said the cook said “next time send the food back sooner.” Yes, he said this. Not even an apology for the crap he sent to our table.

I told her I had no need to come to that restaurant and eat some of my food, send it back and then try to get to get it for free. I was never offered a replacement. I told her there was a distinct difference between grilled onions and BURNED TO CRISP onions.

I understand that this does happen at times, but this was our first and will be our last.

I am sure others have wonderful experiences here, but having to be lectured by a server was both distasteful and a big turn off for us.

My son has sensory issues and eats very few foods. When we are on the road, I can usually count on a quesadilla as it's one of the only foods he will eat and it's simple to get right. Or so one would think.

He will only eat the quesadilla if it is not folded because he can't eat it if the cheese is too thick (normal for me and you). So I always ask for a tortilla, very, very light cheese, topped with another tortilla. Again, simple right? He does no toppings and no sides. He can't eat them. After explaining this to the second server, the sever went back to inquire with the kitchen. She returned and said I would be charged for 2 grande quesadillas. Silly me, I took that to mean 2 large tortillas. Wrong.

When the bill arrived, I was being charged almost $15. What?! We went back and forth discussing the fact that I could have ordered the quesadilla appetizer (3 quesadillas) or 4 of the kids quesadillas, and still have been charged less.

She stated the cook said he used double cheese. I pointed to my sons plate and all the cheese he had squeezed out and reminded her I asked for very little cheese.

Back and forth we went. Ultimately they still charged me for a complete grande meal plus $2. Nearly $10 total. Still 2 kids or 2 appetizers would have cost less. Made no sense to me at all. We need to go back to Burlington weekly now for my son's appts. I will be making sure to pack him food or I'll find a different Mexican restaurant.

Me and my family had a great experience here tonight. I had the enchilada verdes w/ rice & beans (of course) and I had the flan for dessert. Food was good, service was good, and the price was right ($42 for a family of 4 kids ate from kids menu) what else is there to say? I think this will be our new go to Mexican restaurant. Btw...my stepson (my wife's son) was in here not long ago and had lost his card the night before at another restaurant w/o realizing it till he went to pay here at El burrito Loco the next day and they were gracious and trustworthy enough to allow him to leave and return to pay. Of course he did return and pay but we thought it was a really nice thing of them to do in this this day and age to allow him to leave and trust he come back.
