Have you not been here yet? You really ought to try them. They're easily the best donuts in town, maybe in the triad/triangle. You won't want to go back to that chain donut store after you've been to NC Jelly Donuts. Not even that "good" chain donut store... My kids say "it's too much" but the chocolate frosted with chocolate chips is a particularly rich, decadent experience that I only allow myself to indulge in once in awhile, lest I become accustomed to its divinity. The blueberry cake is another favorite, but the classics (plain glazed, chocolate frosted, strawberry frosted) are all phenomenal. To be honest, we haven't found a donut we don't like yet. The hardworking staff has always been courteous and kind. And man do they move fast! By how quickly they pack up a dozen donuts, you can tell they've been doing this for awhile. You can place orders ahead of time and they'll have them waiting for you, and they even allow you to add filling to your donut holes when you order ahead of time!
Speaking of ordering ahead of time, when you're gonna visit, you should try to get there early. People aren't always very considerate of others. I have seen someone standing outside at 5:40am, waiting to walk in and order 10 dozen donuts--right when they opened, without any advance notice. And the lady behind the counter is so awesome that she didn't actually make him wait until they opened, she let us come in and order as soon as she saw him waiting outside!
NC Jelly Donuts(like any reasonable business would) closes for the day once they're sold out. Their donuts are baked fresh, in-house, everyday, and as you may be able to imagine, it takes some serious time to prepare a batch of donuts, and predicting a daily donut sale quantity isn't an exact science. This can lead to some... rather upset Karen(s)/Cheryl(s) who have nothing better to do than leave a one star review on Google for a locally owned and wonderfully operated business, all because Karen/Cheryl doesn't understand basic business principles and is subconsciously dissatisfied with who she is personally but unfortunately lacks the mental capacity required for growth via...
Read moreI called to have an order placed on a Saturday around 10:00. They answered the phone and put me on hold for over 4-5 minutes. I could hear that they were busy ringing custermers orders. I was willing to wait. When the owner did come on the phone she said may I help you. I said I would like to place an order to pick up. In a harsh tone she said "You have to call a day ahead. We are very busy. I can't fill your order. We are busy waiting on customers." We'll excuse me! I thought I was a customer! Further more you need to get your act together and hire more people to help assist your customers. I have alway had great service there. They have never been this rude! I was calling from WV. My son lives in NC and he was going to bring us doughnuts in when he drove into WV. I have 2 sisters that live there also. She lost...
Read moreSome of the best yeast donuts I've ever had! Fluffy, tender, and the glaze is just right. They have an array of classic donuts, and their version of them are far from wimpy - they're pleasantly plump.
They're making donuts throughout the day so they're always fresh, but naturally some things sell out. If you want a filled donut, you can pick from a few unfilled options and then they fill it right then. There's a variety of fillings to choose from. My favorite is lemon.
What to get: classic glazed, twists, old-fashioned cake, lemon filled
Why you should listen to me: I am a donut fiend. I've had donuts from every single shop in the Triangle, from Carolina Glazed, Monuts, Rise, Krispy Kreme, Duck, Dunkin', you name it. I eat donuts in other big cities when I...
