I have been consistently let down by the specialty burgers that everyone raves about. I know what I'm getting into with a greasy, oversized burger, and sometimes it hits the spot, but Shopping Bag's specialty burgers just have no sense of proportion.
If you're gonna cook a single half-pound patty till it's medium-well, you'll never get anything but dry, grainy meat, no matter how much mayo you add to the bun.
The experience of eating a sizzler is like taking a bite of the worst meatloaf you've ever had, with a bite of one of the wetter, mayonnaise-soaked coleslaws you've ever tasted.
The most frustrating part is that you can get any of these specialty burgers as a 1/4lb mini-specialty, which solves all their meat problems, but they don't tone down the number of add-ons accordingly... So the mini-burgers are an excellent thin burger (as opposed to a bistro burger) that is murdered by an overabundance of sauce and lettuce.
They could fix all this in three ways:
Oh, the joys of unexpected food gems! When I heard the claims of The Shopping Bag boasting the "best burgers in Burlington", I thought, "Alright..I def gotta try this". But after diving into the Enraged Sizzler, I can confidently say: They're not exaggerating.
Let's break it down: A half-pound of fresh ground beef, lusciously juicy, paired beautifully with spicy jalapeƱo bacon, fried hots, and a kick from the sriracha mayo. The lettuce, tomato, onions, and pepper jack cheese brought everything together, creating a symphony of flavors that danced delightfully on the palate. As if that wasn't enough, their fries? Golden, crispy perfection.
I'll admit, I was a little thrown off when I realized it was situated inside a convenience store. But any hesitation was instantly forgotten upon the first bite. It's no wonder they've been featured on the Food Network Magazine - it's genuinely that good.
All in all, don't let its unassuming location deter you. The Shopping Bag is an absolute must-visit for burger enthusiasts. I'll certainly be coming...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI called tonight around 6:30pm to find out how late they serve food because there is a discrepancy between the webpage and the Yelp page. The person who answered the phone was utterly uncouth and totally inappropriate. He hung up on me just for informing him of the discrepancy. I called back to tell him I didn't call to complain but to order but when he "put me on hold" i could hear him talking about me and "the gaul" I must have for calling the store when he "doesn't control the Yelp, no body here controls the Yelp". I was a brand new customer, I was OVERLY excited to try this food. Sadly, I'll never, because people who talk to their customers like that, talk ABOUT their customers like that don't care about their customers. Glad I'm not going to be one. If you can afford to hire such socially disconnected people maybe you can also afford a phone with an actual "Hold" feature. So, can you get a burger until 9 or is it 11? Hell...
