Newk's Eatery — Restaurant in Byram

I’m super irritated by this place. Upon arrival, we were greeted and the employee was very nice while taking our order. They provide plastic souvenir cups for the drink and upon placing my drink order, the employee hesitated when giving me a cup. It was already sitting on the counter, so I figured he pulled it out while I was placing my order. Boy, was I wrong! After finding a table, I took a close look at my cup and it looked like it had been rolling on the floor. Hair was on the outside and inside. I then realized that my cup did not come from the stack of cups. There’s no telling how long it had been sitting there. I switched it out for a clean cup and thought all my problems were over.

I ordered a sandwich and 6 cheese macaroni for a side. The macaroni was cold so I took it back. After waiting a long time, I went to check on it. The employee said he forgot to make me another and that he’d get right on it. He let me get a free dessert for my troubles. I choose the lemon cake and it was pretty good. Macaroni #2 came out piping hot and looking way better than #1. It was really good! If only they could be consistent with it. Now on to the positives. The club sandwich was good and there’s an area where you can get unlimited pickles (so yummy), breadsticks and other things to compliment your meal. Also, minus the cup incident, the place looked really clean (bathrooms included). I think I’d be open to trying another Newk’s location, just not sure I’d go to...

I ordered 2 pizzas online and they were both made incorrectly. One was missing a topping and the other was totally wrong. No big deal, go to the counter and let them know the order is wrong. I tell the person st the counter that my pizzas are wrong one is missing feta and the other is missing feta and onions. I was told the cheese probably melted (feta doesn't melt). I only asked for one to be remade as it was for a picky eater. I watch them remaking the pizza wrong for a second time the person making it added sausage, the pizza ordered doesn't have sausage. I tell the person at the counter that the pizza being made is still not right. They go tell the person making the pizza, the person they grabs some ingredients from the cook line and takes it to the oven, I can't see what they are doing but I later realize after my pizza comes out wrong for a second time that the person making it just added ham to the pizza, the sausage was never removed, and its burnt. I ask for the pizza to be made correctly and was told that they didn't have the ingredients to make another pizza. The person that made the pizza said they could take the sausage off. 😒 Needless to say I asked for a refund. Tried to call the manger turns out that the person making the pizza was...

I really want to like this location, I honestly do. Let me preface, this is coming from a previous employee of a MS location (2015-2017). Now with that being said, this location is disappointing. I’ve worked at the Lake Harbour location and been to 3 other Newks, and so far the Byram location is the worst one. I usually get either the shrimp and avocado salad or the Farmer’s Market sandwich. The one and only time I had the sandwich, it was weirdly too salty.

Moving on to my biggest issue, the salad. The first time I went to this location, the salad was good like it should be. I guess I got lucky that time because the quality started to go down hill from there. Every salad after that first one was worse than the last. One salad was missing tomatoes, one had old avocado. The worst one had veins still in the shrimp and shrimp shell pieces, and an avocado stem. The salad I just had today had shrimp shell pieces, old arugula, and even without the usual dressing everything just tasted off.

Again, I really want to like this location because I love Newks overall, but I don’t think I’ll be coming back for a while. I’ll probably order a slice of cake or something pre-made for at least the next couple of months and then see if...
