On vacation in Colorado and stopped by for a coffee. My family had been here a couple years ago and liked their drinks.
I inquired about how much espresso they use in their drinks, trying to get a gauge for how much syrup I should ask for. Most places put way too much syrup in their drinks. Either they are appeasing to the sweet tooths or covering up their bitter espresso (IE Starbucks.) As a note, there wasn't a line and she seemed off-putted that I was inquiring about how my drink is made. My daughter is a barista in a local shop (in Iowa) and we make our own drinks at home using the same product. We know coffee. I am not a fan of buying a drink on vacation only for it to suck and I have to toss it.
So, the drinks are a double shot in 12 and 16, 4 shots in the 20 ounces. I normally ask for 2 syrup pumps in a double shot 16. My husband and I are sharing a 20 so I ask for 3 pumps of caramel after confirming that she uses 1/2 cup of espresso (2-double shots as I thought it was a lot but everywhere makes their own mix.)
We take our drink to go and my husband says it's super sweet. I asked him how it can be if it's 1/2 cup of espresso and 3 pumps of caramel syrup. He said she put a caramel drizzle on the inside of the cup that I did not personally ask for but when she marked it as a caramel latte with 3 pumps that prompted them to do the drizzle. Ugh.
If I ask for a "20 ounce iced latte with 3 pumps of caramel" I do not want the drizzle. Please ask your customers and don't just make it "caramel latte" and do the drizzle.
The drinks have potential to be a 5 star so I left it as that. The saving grace here is that the espresso is not bitter so it's good coffee. The service...
Read moreThe Bean Pedaler at Red Canyon Cycles is a welcoming spot with great atmosphere and on-street van-accessible parking within half a block, which makes arriving convenient for wheelchair users. The entrance has about a one-inch lip, which may make it difficult for manual wheelchair users to roll over independently and may require assistance to enter. The tables offer knee clearance, but the bases may interfere with the front of a wheelchair, making it challenging to pull in close enough to comfortably enjoy food or drinks. The single-user restroom is mostly wheelchair accessible; however, the paper towel dispenser is mounted at 52 inches and the mirror at 51 inches, both of which are too high to be usable from a seated position in a wheelchair. When these features are mounted above reach range, it prevents wheelchair users from washing and drying their hands or seeing their reflection independently, which affects accessibility and dignity. It is recommended that the mirror be lowered so the bottom edge of the reflective surface is no higher than 40 inches, and the paper towel dispenser be lowered so the highest operable part is no more than 48 inches above the floor. With these minor adjustments, The Bean Pedaler could be fully accessible and even more inclusive to...
Read moreThis was my first visit to the The Bean Pedaler and it exceeded my expectations. I ordered a 20oz Americano and the Breakfast Burrito with Bacon. I was expecting just another burrito. Oh no, this burrito raised the bar on all breakfast burritos. It was delivered to my table presented cut in half and served in a nice basket. Cut in half it was still served hot. Love it! The ingredients were cut or chopped in small uniform size and easy to eat without pulling the insides out like can happen with many burritos. The outer tortilla was actually hot and cooked to what I would describe as toasted texture. I’ve never had a breakfast burrito where the tortilla wasn’t soft, cold, or even hot and mushy from how it was wrapped for serving. I highly recommend the green sauce on the side. Exceptional flavor! I can’t leave out the Americano. Great flavor, smooth and not bitter, and plenty hot. I like the relaxing and pleasant environment and the music was actually in the background as it should be, not so loud you can’t have a conversation with friends or family. Check this place out for something different. I will definitely be back. I’m glad to see Canon City has really special places such as The Bean Pedaler. Keep up the great work...
