I recently dined at Fremont Provisions and, regrettably, my experience left much to be desired. While the service was acceptable, the numerous flaws in the culinary offerings overshadowed any positives in this dining establishment.
To begin with, I had ordered a 10 oz ribeye steak with loaded mashed potatoes, only to receive a 7 oz New York strip steak that was both underwhelming in size and over-seasoned with what appeared to be a generic, store-brand seasoning. The dish lacked the promised succulence and flavor that one would expect from a quality steakhouse. This deviation from the menu left a sour taste in my mouth before even taking a single bite.
Additionally, I had ordered the Spinach Dip appetizer with garlic bread, but what arrived at my table was nothing short of a disappointment. Instead of a freshly prepared dip, I was presented with a store-bought bread bowl filled with what seemed to be Boursin cream cheese spread masquerading as spinach dip. This uninspired creation was far from what I had anticipated and further eroded my confidence in the kitchen's ability to deliver a memorable dining experience.
Upon discovering the error in my main course, I made the decision to bring the matter to the attention of the restaurant staff. The waitress conveyed my concern to the chef, who acknowledged the mistake, describing the portion as "a bit small." In response, they offered a meager $7 discount as compensation. While the acknowledgement of the error was appreciated, the inadequate discount hardly made up for the fundamental discrepancy between what I had ordered and what I had been served.
In light of my experience at Fremont Provisions, I would strongly advise potential customers to exercise caution and perhaps explore other dining options. The misrepresentation of dishes and the unimpressive handling of mistakes in the kitchen indicate a lack of attention to detail and a disregard for customer satisfaction. It is disappointing when a restaurant fails to live up to its promises, especially when diners have placed their trust and expectations in its culinary expertise. In conclusion, my visit to Fremont Provisions was marked by culinary disappointment and an overall sense of dissatisfaction, making it an establishment I would recommend avoiding...
Read moreFremont Provisions is a restaurant that acquires its ingredients from local sources and prides itself on providing culinary and beverage specialties.
My personal experience with my other was rather disappointing. We had ordered the Garden Delmonico Ribeye medium rare, and the Blackened Mahi accompanied with the Bacon Mozzerella appetizer.
To start, the ribeye was overcooked after requested preference. There was a lack of flavor but the quality of the meat was above grade compared to other restaurants in the area. The Mashed Potatoes and gravy were coarse but hearty as it rested underneath the steak. The plating seemed to be too close together and the flavor from the Brussel sprouts had blended with the steak and potatoes. The sautéed vegetables were an added side, but a blend of small cut peppers, onion, squash, sprouts and zucchini which didn't really seem to have great texture or flavor either. The portion size did not seem to reflect the cost either.
The Blackened Mahi was heavily peppered and seared, giving it a distinct texture and almost overwhelming taste. It was served over a generous bed of wild rice and paired with green onions, shallots and bell pepper. To be frank, it was not a meal I wished to consume as it was an unfavorable blend. Once again the plating of the meal was sort of overlapping and causing other portions to saturate the flavors of other courses. The overall quality of the ingredients was fair but all together it was not enjoyable.
An issue with this experience as well was the price. I did not expect to have the price associated with the meals served as they did not equate to a great feast, but rather a piled mess. The happy hour was also misleading regarding its beverages and specials.
The redeeming qualities of this establishment were the staff as they were very attentive and provided great service and always made sure our plates and drinks were cleared, leaving no room for clutter. The Bacon mozzerela appetizer was presented with a bed of basil and pesto which blended great with the crisped Bacon and fresh mozzerela.
The service, appetizers and beverages would be a reason to return, however the entrees and prices would need...
Read moreMy family and I went there for a late lunch early dinner this afternoon. We were waited on by Sam and a trainee. Sam did most of the talking and he was informative with just the right amount of chit chat. He also engaged with the boys and did not treat them like children, which they appreciated, 11yoa and 9yoa, for reference.
The youngest ordered from kids menu, he chose a cheese pizza. It was very on par with the adult menu. By this I mean it was fresh made pizza crust with fresh mozzarella and home made sauce, and possibly a wood fired oven? No microwave kids meal. It was also very reasonably priced at only $7 with a delicious bowl of fruit. The 11 year old ordered a appetizer special as his main course, pulled pork served nacho-style on fried wontons. “Nacho” mamas nachos! He said it was fantastic and from the small forkfuls he was willing to share, I would agree. My husband tried their wing special and a small spring mix salad which he topped with the Dijon balsamic dressing, which is made in house. He loves wings and is somewhat of an expert, and he said they were excellent. My entree ended up being the veggie sandwich on focaccia which I ordered open faced due to orthodontia. It was delicious and exactly what I hoped for. The eggplant was perfectly done. Nice thick slices, and not mushy or overcooked.
When you go, be aware that there are dinner items that are not available until after five, only a few but I was looking forward to the eggplant rotini. The other downside is desserts are also not available until after five. I see a date night in my very near future. The atmosphere and menu items are a welcome addition to Canon City and I can not...
