I am only an occasional visitor to the Regional Museum and Historical Center. Having lived in Cañon City for 50 years now I can say a few things:
The staff is very helpful. The history center is responsive to email and phone requests about local history. They maintain well organized archives. The small but, dedicated staff is protective of the artifacts and archives, but share and display them whenever possible. Read moreWe stopped in the other day, as we are working on a documentary and were seeking some archival newspapers, and the SECOND we walked in we were warmly greeted and immediately shown exactly where to go. The staff was so pleasant, helpful, sweet, and friendly - they made our research process SO simple by promptly tracking down two file folders filled with information on the subject we were after. Read moreIt's a fairly small museum, but that is actually a benefit. They were cleaning a dinosaur bone they found locally and the personnel doing it interacted with my 2 boys. That doesn't happen in bigger museums. It's mostly focused on local history, which is surprisingly rich. We were visiting from out of town and needed to kill some time before our train ride.
