Benji's Taqueria Mexican Grill 2 — Restaurant in Caldwell

This location has changed a lot this summer, from names to ownership to decor, but one thing stays certain: the food is fantastic. Benji’s has done a lovely job redecorating the space; the colors and decor are lively and bright, and the space is clean, welcoming more to dine in instead of take out. The food is delicious, and the menu has a wide variety of authentic Mexican dishes.

When the waiter asks if you want to start with chips and guac - say yes. The chips are warm, perfectly salted and crispy, and the guacamole is delightful. They’ll bring out an avocado mixture (not spicy at all) and a decently hot salsa, so make sure to specify if you want spicier salsa; they do have it, but they don’t bring it out at first. Tacos were delicious and filling; I got al pastor and carnitas, both wonderful. My guest got the chorizo torta, which he loved. We didn’t have room for dessert, but I’ll be looking forward to getting the flan and churros next time.

If you’ve been to this location in the past for Mexican food, make sure to come to Benji’s - they did a phenomenal job and you will not be disappointed. Staff is as friendly as ever, too. And if you haven’t been before, definitely give it a go! This is not a...

Place an order for catering and what I thought it was going to be great it turn out completely the opposite. I went directly to the restaurant in Caldwell to place the order and ask questions. I place an 2 taco platters, 1 big tray chicken enchilada in green sauce and 5 orders of gorditas. When I ask the guy who was taking the order if there was a side for the enchiladas and he said yes (Rice and Beans). I also asked about delivery and I was told it was included. So I place the order. When the order arrive had few issue: 1st the enchiladas came with no rice and beans and when I call the restaurant the lady that answer the phone and I mentioned that I was missing food she checked and said sorry they don’t come with it. I asked to speaking with the manager and they just hang up. 2nd the delivery driver was very rude when we arrive saying that they charge $4.99 when I was supposed to get charge $60 + and the tip wasn’t included.

The party had already started and I had a lot of kids waiting for rice and beans and had no other option at that point.

I WONT SUGGEST DOING CATERING WITH THIS PLACE AND IF YOU DO HOPEFULLY THEY TELL...

Came in one night in the mood for tacos. Atmosphere was standard: upbeat and lively music,vibrant decor and friendly staff at the counter. My server was great as well and even offered to answer any questions about the menu which I appreciated. The tacos themselves were freshly prepared and flavorful!

One thing really stood out and not in a good way: I didn’t appreciate how the staff’s gossiping about former employees was almost louder than the music. It felt weird as I was trying to enjoy my meal but kept hearing about the faults of past employees...not a good look.

Tried their tres leches and was pretty disappointed. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but it was pretty dry. Tres leches which usually very moist because of the little pool of milk that’s at the bottom. Used to order from the previous owners all the time and had they had some of the best homemade tres leches.

Might give them a shot in the future, but definitely doing...
