Applebee's Grill + Bar — Restaurant in California

CUSTOMERS BEWARE! We suspect that one of the managers of the Cameron Park Applebee's is running a scam. We placed a mobile pickup order and paid online. My husband goes to pickup the order and is greeted cheerfully by one of the waitresses, who goes to the back to get our order. The waitress comes back out with the manager and the waitress's demeanor had completely changed to very unhappy. Like, what happened in the back that completely deflated the waitress??? The waitress went in another direction while the manager brought my husband the food. The manager then stated the order is not paid for. My husband says, it is paid for, but the manager kept insisting repeatedly. It wasn't until he said he's calling his wife (I placed the order) did the manager then go and get the receipt and say "Oh yeah it's paid for." Then as my husband goes to sign the receipt, the manager is standing over him and watching like a hawk to make sure he tips. We don't typically tip for takeout since we're not having table service and there are often issues with our orders, but my husband felt obligated to tip with her watching. My husband said the manager's behavior was very strange and suspicious We've never been treated this way at Applebee's and believe this manager is up to something. At best, her behavior was inappropriate. At worst, she's scamming customers. This manager was working between 1:30 and 2 PM on Sunday, 12/22/24. I've emailed corporate, as this could be happening to other customers. On top of all this, our orders were incorrect, which once again reaffirms why we don't tip...

Last visit please see next paragraph! Good food, and good service! Perfect Margarita was very tasty ! Bumped it up from four stars to five tonight! We had the bourbon chicken and shrimp which was hot and tasty! The perfect margarita was fantastic and service was excellent tonight!

Consistancy in the food business is crucial, if you have a lot of ups and downs people dont know what to expect and may choose a more reliable option. I find we are having about one mediocre meal in three at Applebees! Undercooked to overcooked broccoli, once we had both overcooked and undercooked broccoli on the same table! You could tell at first glance, it was that obvious! This last meal had a poorly cooked steak, half of which was well done and the other half closer to what I ordered!( hot spot on the grill I guess) Mashed potatoes were not hot, not really warm enough! This has happened multiple times! The broccoli was perfect this time as were the perfect margaritas! Our service was very good with the only exception being a longish wait for the second margarita! Possibly waiting on the bartender. The chicken and shrimp dinner which we had on a previous visit not reviewed was fine but the house potatoes were cooked to oblivion! I know it's inexpensive by comparison, but do it well or go out of business because I still drop 50 to 100 every time! Why should I waste my money on something that isnt good one in three times! I am very disappointed. Upon seating there was torn paper on the seat like napkin paper and the floor under booth was not cleaned well. We ordered cocktails and an appetizer to enjoy with our drinks before dinner. My $10.99 cocktail didn’t have enough juice and was very sour and there were a few small pieces of strawberry not big slices like the picture. I did complain but for $10.99 there shouldn’t be a problem. After a bit of a wait some other server braught the dinner salads so we declined the appetizer at that point no one wants thier dinner salad first and than the appetizer. After explaining that to the server who took our order her response was that she forgot we ordered an appetizer? We felt extremely rushed the entire dinner service. So much for a relaxing night out! Our meals had good flavor but the steak was extremely chewy and very tiny. All of the portions were below average serving size. If you want a burger your better off than a steak dinner there. I also think the servers need to be trained that having an appetizer with cocktails should not be rushed when you tell the server that’s how they our want to start.
